Yesterday's Minecraft Live event gave fans a look at several new features coming with the next major Minecraft update, including a new type of wood made with bamboo that will allow players to decorate their worlds with a selection of new blocks and items, as well as a new type of boat - the raft. This year's major Minecraft event had a lot to show off, including an in-depth look at the upcoming Minecraft Legends as well as a peek at the next season for Minecraft Dungeons, which is just around the corner.

Interestingly, the name of Minecraft's 1.20 update was not unveiled at the event, and some fans were puzzled over the relatively small amount of content that was revealed compared to that of other update reveals over the past few years. One of the game's developers, Brandon Pearce, explained on Twitter that Mojang wanted to take a more steady approach to announcing new content to make sure that the team didn't overpromise and underdeliver on new features.

Along with hanging signs, chiseled bookshelves, and a new camel mob, Mojang revealed that players will soon be able to use bamboo to craft another new variant of wood. Complete with the usual array of blocks, slabs, stairs, fences, doors, and more, players will be able to populate their worlds with even more interesting creations while exploring the oceans of Minecraft with a new type of boat. The raft, a new boat variant crafted with bamboo, will have its own unique appearance while functioning just the same as any other type of boat. This includes the ability to attach a chest to it, allowing players to carry even more loot home from their adventures.

The addition of seven new default skins coming with the next Minecraft update alongside the other aforementioned features suggests that players will soon be able to bring much more variety and personality to their creations in Minecraft. As was the case with the game's Wild Update earlier this year, along with many updates prior to it, players can certainly expect there to be a theme to this update - though the complete roster of new features, as well as the update's official name, have yet to be revealed.

While much of the community is hungry for more information regarding the unnamed 1.20 update, a lot of players are excited by the new hanging signs and bamboo wood, which will allow them to add much more detail to their builds. Though fans will have to wait a while longer to hear more from the developers, new updates to Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons, along with the whole new Minecraft Legends set to release in Spring 2023, gives fans of the beloved franchise a lot to look forward to in the near future.

Minecraft is available on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and a variety of legacy platforms.
