Minecraft owes its massive levels of success to the continuous updates that the game has received, with there seemingly always being something new to explore within the longstanding sandbox title. As things like new mobs are added to the game, opportunities then rise for the implementation of brand-new loot, structures, and game mechanics.

This is going to be the case with the highly anticipated upcoming 1.20 update for Minecraft, which is otherwise being referred to as the Jungle Update. With the update's focus on homeliness and with the increased importance of Piglins within the franchise as a whole, the 1.20 update could be the perfect place for Piglin villages to finally be added to the game.

The Themes of Minecraft's 1.20 Update

minecraft 1.20

The 1.20 update for Minecraft is set to officially launch some time in January, and will predictably bring with it a slew of new content for players to explore and enjoy. One of the main themes of this particular update appears to be centered around the home and decoration, with new items such as hanging signs and chiseled bookshelves offering lots in the way of brand-new decoration opportunities.

A new type of wood building block will also come with 1.20, with players subsequently being able to build structures and rafts out of a variety of bamboo wood blocks. Perhaps most importantly, it has been confirmed that a brand-new mob known as the Sniffer will be implemented in 1.20, with the mob being crowned champion of the Minecraft Mob Vote back in October. Piglins are confirmed to be at the center of some of 1.20's additional content, with players soon being able to acquire a Piglin mob head by completing the difficult task of killing a Piglin with a supercharged Creeper. While this is a plus, Piglins could easily receive some more comprehensive new content in the way of Piglin villages via the 1.20 update.

Piglin Lore and Piglin Villages

Minecraft Legends Piglin Lore

Piglins are a species of humanoid pig-like creatures indigenous to the Nether dimension, who are set to be the main antagonistic force of the upcoming real time strategy title Minecraft Legends. The narrative of Legends will reportedly see Piglins invade the main Overworld, necessitating the player character to unite the many mobs of the Overworld against this common threat.

In this way, it is clear that Piglins are soon set to play a huge role in the overarching lore and narrative of the Minecraft franchise, which could sensibly bring about some in-game content changes to Minecraft itself to reflect this change. One of the most tangible ways in which this could be achieved is by implementing a brand-new generated structure known as Piglin villages. Villages have long been a staple of Minecraft's randomly generated structures, and new ones that reflect the culture and everyday living of Piglins would be a great way to flesh out this particular mob-type and add to the Piglin lore.

Piglin structures in the form of strongholds do already exist within the Nether, but the introduction of villages would provide a more intimate insight to the mob-type. With the aforementioned narrative of Minecraft Legends, these Piglin villages could even spawn in the Overworld near Nether portals, providing a nod to the story of Minecraft Legends while tangibly linking the upcoming title to the base-game of Minecraft. While this is of course conjecture at this point, the home-oriented nature of the 1.20 update, combined with the increased relevance of Piglins within the IP, makes for a perfect opportunity for something like Piglin villages to be added to Minecraft soon.

Minecraft is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and legacy platforms.
