The Resident Evil film franchise seemingly came to a conclusion with the release of the sixth installment of the series, The Final Chapter, in 2016. However, Milla Jovovich recently expressed her willingness to reprise her role as Alice in another Resident Evil film should the opportunity arise.

Over the course of six films, the Resident Evil franchise centered on Jovovich's Alice as she battled the Umbrella Corporation, a pharmaceutical company responsible for releasing the virus that brought about the zombie apocalypse. In The Final Chapter, Alice successfully unleashes an airborne anti-virus capable of killing every organism infected with the T-virus. Though the events of the film may be a fitting conclusion to Alice's journey, audiences are reminded that it will take years for the anti-virus to spread across the globe, and that her mission will not be complete until then.

During an interview with ComicBook.com, Jovovich said she would love to play Alice again considering how important the franchise has been to her over the years. "Resident Evil is such a huge part of my life, on so many different levels," Jovovich said. "I was such a big fan of the game. That's what made me want to be in the movie, to begin with. So, I would always love to go back to the Resident Evil universe. I think it's such a fun place to be in, and it's such a great reality. And, listen, I spent half of my career in that world. I would love to be a part of it again. I know whoever is doing it is going to have an amazing time on it because it's a really fun world to be a part of."

While a seventh Resident Evil film doesn't appear to be in the cards for Jovovich at this time, she did team up with her husband Paul W. S. Anderson, who directed four entries in the franchise, for the feature film adaption of Capcom's Monster Hunter video games.

In October, Constantin Film announced plans to reboot the Resident Evil film series with a new adaptation based primarily on the first two installments of the video game franchise. While Jovovich's Alice was created specifically for the first six films, the reboot will star Kaya Scodelario, Robbie Amell, and Hannah John-Kamen as video game characters Claire Redfield, Chris Redfield, and Jill Valentine, respectively. Directed and written by Johannes Roberts, the reboot serves as an origin story set on a fateful night in Raccoon City when the deadly T-virus first begins to spread.

Joining the cast of the reboot is former Gotham star Donal Logue as Chief Brian Irons. As a key villain from the second video game and the police chief of the Raccoon City Police Department, Irons sought to help the Umbrella Corporation cover up the T-Virus incident.

While the original Resident Evil films were only loosely based on the video games, photos from the set of the reboot indicate the newest entry in the franchise will be more faithful to the source material. For example, the infamous Spencer Mansion from the first game was previewed in a batch of set photos revealed earlier this month.

The Resident Evil reboot is scheduled to be released on September 9, 2021.
