Beavis and Butt-Head creator Mike Judge tweeted official sketches of his classic characters ahead of the movie reboot of the hit '90s animated series, which is in development for Paramount Plus. And these days, Beavis and Butt-Head are not so smooth.

The sketches for the Paramount Plus film show Beavis and Butt-Head aged up to their forties, wrinkles very much included. Butt-Head appears to have grown a beer gut and lost a lot of hair, but not his signature shorts. Beavis has traded the shorts in for pants, glasses, and a t-shirt that might have vomit on it. Some things never change. Though in their forties, the ridiculously vulgar, immature bunglers still look, well, like vulgar, immature bunglers. It remains to be seen if Beavis’ alter-ego The Great Cornholio will also return for the movie.

Judge, who also created the hit FOX series King of the Hill and wrote and directed the comedy film Office Space, teased the upcoming return of Beavis and Butt-Head. “Beavis and Butt-Head will be returning this year with a brand new movie and more on Paramount+. No exact date yet, but soon. They need some time to get back in shape," he wrote on Twitter. This is not Beavis' nor Butt-Head's first movie. The pair starred in Beavis and Butt-Head Do America, a theatrical release with Demi Moore, Bruce Willis and Cloris Leachman in supporting roles.

But that movie came hot on the heels of the series’ success on mid-nineties MTV. A 2011 attempt at an eighth season on MTV failed spectacularly, failing to capture the new audience of MTV. There was no ninth season. In 2020 it was announced that Judge was working with Comedy Central to reboot Beavis and Butt-Head for two seasons as part of a deal that involves spinoffs and specials, which evidently includes this Paramount Plus project. Both companies are owned by Viacom/CBS.

By sharing the sketches with an announcement to fans about the new movie, Judge seems to be suggesting that the new film will see the duo, who were high school freshmen in the original animated series that ran on MTV from 1993-1997, navigating life as grown-ups in the 2020s. But with no premiere date or even title announced, it's likely too early for Judge or Paramount Plus to release plot details.

Paramount Plus has been leaning hard on its strategy of attracting subscribers with nostalgia-fueled reboots of intellectual property already owned by their parent company, Viacom/CBS, which includes networks like MTV, Comedy Central, and Nickelodeon. In the last year, the streamer rebooted the Nickelodeon cartoon Rugrats, now with CG animation, and got Jordan Peele to produce and host their new iteration of The Twilight Zone. But still, the people cry out for what they really want: the return of a certain propane and propane accessories salesman.

The Beavis and Butt-Head reboot is in development for Paramount Plus.
