Of the many games announced during the most recent Nintendo Direct, the Switch port of Miitopia is one that may have fallen under the radar for a number of fans. Originally developed for the Nintendo 3DS, Miitopia is a unique title that a lot of players who hadn't owned the handheld console may be interested in picking up. The studio that's helping with the development of Miitopia is certainly reputable.

Grezzo is a Japanese-based game development studio that has been in business for nearly fifteen years, but is just now starting to pick up clout within the gaming industry. The studio is currently known for its work on the recent remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, but has also had its hand in a number of different projects.

February 2021's Nintendo Direct saw the announcement of the Miitopia Switch port, and its listing on the Nintendo UK website reveals that Grezzo will be co-developing the game alongside Nintendo. Given the amount of success that the Link's Awakening remake had achieved, Miitopia fans should be able to rest easy knowing that a studio like Grezzo is helping out here.

The remake of Link's Awakening is not the only popular game that Grezzo is associated with. During the height of the 3DS's popularity in the early-to-mid-2010s, Grezzo also helped to develop remakes of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, both of which were received favorably by many in the gaming community.

In any case, it will be interesting to see what Grezzo ultimately brings to the table in terms of the Miitopia Switch port. Practically all of the remakes that Grezzo has been associated with, including the remake of Luigi's Mansion on the 3DS, were able to expand upon what was previously featured in the original versions. It's likely that there could be additional quality-of-life mechanics featured in Miitopia.

Now that Miitopia is getting a port to Nintendo Switch, this could open the door for additional releases of 3DS-exclusive games. For instance, Tomodachi Life is a game that quite a lot of fans have been wanting to see ported for some time now and given the success that Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask had on the 3DS, along with the release of the Switch port of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, there's a lot more potential for older games to release on Switch.

Miitopia is scheduled to release May 21, 2021 exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
