When Miitopia released for the Nintendo Switch on May 21, 2021, it became the first 3DS game ever to be ported onto Switch. Curiosity immediately arose among those who had never played the game as to why Nintendo would pick Miitopia for this honor.

Fans of Miitopia have been singing it praises for years, and it looks like the decision-makers at Nintendo agree. Let's take a look at a few highlights of this amazing game. Here are some awesome things many don't know about Miitopia, and reasons to check it out on the Switch.

8 Players Control All of The Characters

Switch Port

The player-controlled customization in Miitopia is incredibly detailed. Due to the game's concept as an RPG staring Miis, players can essentially put any character they want into the game. Do players want to include their own image? Done. Friends and family members? Easy. Characters from other pieces of media? No problem.

What about original characters? The player's imagination is the only limit. Fans can even have duplicates of Miis. So, if players want to make every character in their own image and live out dreams of experiencing true solipsism, this is the game to have. Players can also assign roles to every character in the game: major antagonists, party members, generic NPCs, just name it.

7 Players Control Weapon Designs

Miitopia also has an amazing feature that allows players to keep the appearance of weaker weapons/armor in the game, but not lose the better stats. If the look of the original sword is cooler than the upgrade, keep the original look and still benefit from the improved stats. The armor also comes with several different color choices, further expanding customization options.

The weapons and armor also come with their own brand of entertainment. Players can wield an ice cream-shaped microphone as a weapon, or wear clothes designed solely to make the Mii look super muscular. If that's not enough to keep players entertained, they can just grab a fish and use it to slaughter enemies.

6 Mii Designs Are Super Customizable

The Miis themselves come with excellent customization outside of their visual design. Players can set a Mii's personality to be one of 7 different choices (Kind, Stubborn, and Laid-back are just a few examples), and the Miis will behave as advertised. Each Mii has a "war cry" that players can set, which is essentially a custom catchphrase they will utter in battles. Set it to anything, as long as it fits within the character limit.

By far the best example of the customization comes with the wigs and makeup in the new Nintendo Switch port. With these, Miis have essentially become blank canvases for players to draw on. It's incredible how closely players can make a Mii resemble anybody, with the options that the wigs and makeup allow.

5 A Vast Soundtrack

Fans rave that the music in Miitopia is absolutely incredible. With a whopping 200+ songs in its soundtrack, it's an amazingly rich game musically. There are different battle themes, map themes, stage themes, town themes, and even title screen themes for every major location in the game.

The soundtrack covers a wide range of genres as well, from the vocalized beauty that is "Ballad of the Fairies," and the adrenaline-inducing battle themes, to the town themes that creatively remix the same leitmotif to match the area. All of this comes with the high-quality audio available on Switch, and the huge number of songs prevent the music from getting repetitive.

4 Tons Of Content

This game is not just a quick romp that players can power through in a day. Miitopia is actually incredibly dense with content. The main story alone takes well over 25 hours to finish, with a plethora of optional and postgame content on top of that. If players decide to 100% this game, they could very well be playing it for months.

However, the game's length is very well placed, so that none of it feels like padding (especially in the main story). It's constantly throwing new material at the player, so it keeps a steady flow of progression throughout.

3 Extremely Player Friendly

Miitopia Horse & Dragon

Worried that this game might be too difficult or complicated? Don't be. Miitopia is a simple RPG that anyone can pick up and play. The gameplay is kept barebones thanks to this being an extremely personality-driven game. There is nothing about it that is cryptic or that will cause undue confusion.

Miitopia is also very well balanced. With its heavy focus on customization, the game makes sure that all possible combinations are useful. Sure, some jobs and personalities are better than others, but the game can be completed using any and all of them. This makes creating a team a lot more fun.

2 The Game Bleeds Personality

Switch Port

Miitopia's personality is far and away its shining feature. The interactions with the Miis, both in the main party and NPCs, are consistently funny, and there are a ton of them. The Miis can bond with one another by cleaning their rooms in the inn. They can buy presents that range from bent soda cans to actual new cars.

Characters can become so attached to each other that they will obliterate an enemy that just knocked out their favorite party member. The developers even thought to add specific interactions when multiple characters with the same job are together. The Switch version adds even more interactions to the original 3DS game, ensuring it never gets dull.

1 Super Interesting Jobs

Nintendo Switch Port

The various jobs players can assign the Miis all have a very distinct flavor to them. There are the roles that players expect from any Fantasy RPG, such as Warrior, Mage, and Cleric. However, the game gives more offbeat jobs to choose from as well.

One example is the Pop Star. This particular job allows the Mii to attack enemies with painfully off-key singing. Additionally, a player might want to choose for a Mii to be a Chef, where they can outright turn enemies into food. These wacky jobs further add to the personality that draws players to Miitopia.
