Ubisoft seems to be looking into revitalizing its classic Might & Magic franchise in the future, according to the company's latest job listings. The popular publisher's Shangai studio is looking for a new veteran game developer to "champion the brand marketing and product marketability" for its new project.

The last Might & Magic game that Ubisoft developed and published was released in 2014 - Might & Magic X: Legacy - to mostly favorable reviews, though the community wasn't too thrilled about it. A major issue with Legacy was that it was a dungeon crawling game, rather than a fully-fledged turn-based strategy that fans had grown to love.

Now, though, with Ubisoft Shanghai making it clear that it's working on an entirely new Might & Magic AAA release, it seems that the company may be looking into giving the franchise another lease on life. While there's no telling yet what this new Might & Magic title will entail, the job listing does make it clear that the proper production pipeline is yet to be set up.

Specifically, Ubisoft Shanghai is looking for a Senior Brand Manager to work with the pre-existing team of developers to help reinvigorate the Might & Magic franchise. The job description references defining the team's product positioning strategy, making sure that the game is marketable, and helping with the creation and assessment of all related assets, among other duties. There have been no mentions of Ubisoft Quartz so far, either.

Considering Ubisoft's usual approach to classic game franchises with the upcoming Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia remakes, it's interesting that the company isn't looking to bring Might & Magic back into the spotlight with a similar legacy project. Instead, Ubisoft Shanghai seems to have an entirely new AAA product in mind. Since there's no gameplay information listed in the job description, there's also no way to tell if the game will be a full-on turn-based strategy, or if it would fall into a different genre, instead, such as the cult classic Dark Messiah of Might & Magic.

On a closing note, hopeful Might & Magic fans ought to remember Beyond Good and Evil 2 - another Ubisoft franchise that was thought to have been permanently shelved, only to reappear years later as a major upcoming release. Its resurgence, however, was way back in 2016, and the game is still yet to come out. Hopefully, the same thing doesn't happen with this new Might & Magic release, but it may be wise to keep a pinch of salt at hand.
