The wisecracking Deadpool finally joins the Marvel's Midnight Suns roster in the game's first round of DLC, and Firaxis seems to have adapted the character very well. He seems to be as hilarious as ever, and that is partly due to the voice work of Nolan North. North is no stranger to voicing Deadpool as he has played him in so many different projects outside of Marvel's Midnight Suns, and it feels like he was almost born to play the role. He plays Deadpool so well here that it only makes the lack of a sequel to 2013's Deadpool even worse.

Deadpool has become very popular over the years thanks to Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool series, but he has never quite broken into video games. As of now, there has really only been one major Deadpool-centric title. That came in the form of Activision's hilarious Deadpool game from 2013, but that has since been delisted on every digital platform. There has been no news of another Deadpool title since, and he seems to have been relegated to side character status. While his cameo appearances in other projects can be very funny, it is about time for Nolan North's Merc with a Mouth to get another solo outing.

Another Nolan North Deadpool Game is a Must

Marvel Grasshopper Manufacture No More Heroes

2013's Deadpool game was a flawed title, but it was also a lot of fun. Players took control of the titular antihero, and they followed this wild story chock-full of self-referential humor and fourth wall breaking fun. It starts with the simple premise of Deadpool wanting to create the greatest game ever, and quickly divulges into a time travel story starring some of the most popular X-men. The game was mostly praised for its strange tale, but it received numerous critiques for the actual gameplay.

No game is perfect, and Deadpool was definitely far from perfect. Though it was very funny throughout, and it did a great job at capturing the energy of Deadpool, it seemed to have repeated the pitfalls of many action-adventure games. The gameplay was very repetitive, combat could sometimes be a slog, and the controls were often cumbersome. Even with all those faults, the game was still well worth a playthrough as Nolan North did a fantastic job bringing Deadpool to life. He has brought that same energy to Marvel's Midnight Suns, and it works very well.

The character has only grown in popularity since the release of Deadpool, and that makes it the perfect time to revisit the character. His appearance in Marvel's Midnight Suns shows that Nolan North still has what it takes to play the character, and that some Marvel gamers seem to be hungry for even more content with their favorite wisecracking mercenary. It would only make sense that a developer would want to capitalize on that popularity, and now would be the time to do it.

The Deadpool game showed that it is possible to put the character at the center of his own game, it just needs to have better gameplay. Take the writing style of High Moon Studios, combine it with some fresh unique gameplay, and give players the Deadpool game they are craving. While it would not necessarily be a direct sequel to the 2013 game, it would feel like a missed opportunity if Nolan North did not reprise the role. Combining all of these elements could lead to a really fun title that is a hilarious ride from start to finish.

There does not seem to be any plans for a Deadpool-centric game in the immediate future, and fans of the character may have to be satisfied with cameo appearances in projects like Marvel's Midnight Suns instead. However, If Deadpool's appearance in Marvel's Midnight Suns showed anything, it is that the world needs as much Nolan North Deadpool as it can get. While North may only reprise the role every so often, he deserves to headline another wild fourth wall-breaking game sometime soon.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, with PS4, Switch, and Xbox One versions coming later.
