The Xbox Series S has been a console that has been rumored for some time. The console has been said to be a cheaper and less powerful version of the upcoming Xbox Series X. While some players may want a console that boasts the most powerful specifications, the Series S seems to be designed for players who want to enjoy games more casually and utilize features like the Xbox Game Pass. It now appears that the console has been confirmed but when it will be announced remains a mystery.

Many players noted that the Games Pass was the prominent feature of the Xbox Games Showcase and what was interesting about the subscription service is that it did not discriminate against the current-gen. Rather it seems that games that will need the power of new consoles will be phased in over the next few years. With that in mind, the Series S seems to be an ideal way for players to upgrade their console without having a major price tag attached. However, the team at Xbox have largely been quiet about the release of the console.

A leaked image of the packaging of Xbox's next-gen consoles seemingly confirms the existence of the S and X but it is unclear whether both consoles will be released together. There is currently a great deal of anticipation for Xbox to reveal a price and specific release date for the Xbox Series X and with that in mind, a new console may detract from the marketing campaign that has already been established. If there is to be an imminent announcement it will be at one of the monthly Xbox events which are unveiling new information about the plans for the company moving forward.

The Xbox One S shares similarities, in terms of purpose, with the Xbox Series S and that console came out three years after the initial release of the Xbox One. Releasing a smaller and less high-end console well into the shelf-life of a console is a standard practice in the gaming industry as it can boost sales. It would not be surprising to see a similar approach for the Series S as Xbox has said very little about the console and it has been rumors and leaks which have informed consumers about the existence of the system.

While it seems unlikely that Xbox would saturate the gaming market with consoles, it is developing another system and it seems that some people have managed to obtain material on the console. With that in mind, the company may release a smaller and cheaper console sooner than usual, but with plenty of the Xbox Series X still to be unveiled the Series S is likely to be considerably further away.
