The next generation of consoles is set to introduce console gamers to a new standard of gaming and technical capabilities. Xbox has already announced the release date and price of the Xbox Series X and Series S which has resulted in particular praise being given to the Series S. Many feel that the Series S is an affordable way to play the next-generation of games, but despite the positive reception of these upcoming consoles, it seems that Xbox is working on the third entry in this console series.

In comparison to the Series S, the Xbox Series X offers higher specifications for a larger sum of money. While the high-end system may be out of the price range of some, it also promises quality technology. However, it seems that Xbox is planning to release a third console that is sitting in between the Series S and X in terms of performance. This would be a new practice, as usually a standard console is released with a slim and improved version coming years later to boost sales figures.

A tweet outlined the rumor and claimed that there was a console called the Xbox Series V under development currently under the working title of " Project Edinburg." This is likely meant to read Edinburgh, after the capital of Scotland, but it will be interesting to see if and when this console is announced. The tweet adds that this system has more power than the Series S and less than the Series X. The image that accompanies the statement also shows that the size of the Xbox console is in between the Series X and S.

There have been many rumors about next-gen consoles and many will try to ignore speculation until the final products are delivered. This particular rumor does carry some weight because the Twitter user Idle Sloth frequently covers breaking Xbox news but it would be an unusual strategy. Typically a base console is followed up with different iterations to avoid diminishing sales years into the lifespan of a console and this has been illustrated by the strategies of both Xbox and PlayStation this generation. With that said, this new generation may mark a change in strategy for Xbox, and elements like the Xbox Game Pass already seem to be increasing in terms of importance.

There is plenty of excitement for the new Xbox consoles and while some would welcome a mid-range console it may be a risk for Microsoft. After all three consoles in a short time may saturate the market. Xbox will undoubtedly have a strategy to accompany this console if it is produced and many will be interested to see how the company promotes the systems.
