Microsoft has been working diligently at enlarging its portfolio of first-party games by acquiring game studios from all over the world over the past few years. It has continued its push with services such as Xbox Game Pass and xCloud, and this holiday will be launching a brand new console, the Xbox Series X. As Microsoft continues to gain momentum, a recent rumor points to the possibility of Xbox and Sega working together for a joint announcement sometime in the near future.

An image has leaked online that points to a live event that may be steaming on Mixer, the service that is being streamed on more than Youtube and Facebook Gaming combined, on June 14.

The image uses the Xbox Game Studios logo and the classic Sega one as well, asking fans to "tune in for exclusive world premieres and more information from our newest creators at Xbox Game Studios." Apparently a big reveal with Sega was planned for E3 2020 before the event was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, so this may be plan B.

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer time in Japan earlier in the year to discuss gaming's future and work with Japan's amazing talent, perhaps a project with Sega was what he had in mind.

Whether or not this supposed leaked image is true or not is yet to be determined, so take it with a grain of salt. However, if it is real, the list of possible games that the two powerhouse gaming companies could be working on is nearly endless. There are many Sega franchises that deserve to be brought back. Xbox Game Studios and Sega could easily bring back fun and goofy games like Crazy Taxi and Jet Grind Radio. But a next-generation version of NiGHTSShinobi, or even Golden Axe would be equally amazing. The way the leaked image is set up, it makes it feel like it's more than a single game.

Microsoft seems to be very much attempting to alter perceptions lately, and doing so adequately. A recent rumor has pointed to the Microsoft buying Metal Gear and Silent Hill from Konami, and with news like that breaking its safe to assume the next-generation race is going to be an interesting one. It's these types of events and announcements, and the games that will follow, that should excite fans moving forward.
