After images of the new Xbox One Slim and a number of upcoming games were leaked prior to Microsoft’s E3 conference, the company releases a statement on all the leaks: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
E3 2016 has finally kicked off this weekend with the Electronic Arts’ “EA Play” event, however, a number of notable announcements came in prior to the company’s conference, most of which were related to its competitor Microsoft. While Microsoft’s own E3 press conference isn’t on until June 13, images of a brand new Xbox One Slim were leaked ahead of time, thus confirming long-standing rumors of a slimmer Xbox model. In addition to the new console, screenshots and the release date of the upcoming Xbox-exclusive ReCore were also leaked, as well as a batch of new screenshots from what appears to be Dead Rising 4. In the face of all these premature leaks, Microsoft has been largely silent for most of the day, but it has finally issued out a short and simple statement: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
As lighthearted as it seems, this is the genuine official response that Microsoft gave to GameSpot when those aforementioned leaks were brought up. In addition to the ASCII emoji, Microsoft’s statement also provided a link to the company’s official E3 page. While some may have been expecting a more wordy response, one can’t help but feel that the emoji fully captures what Microsoft must be feeling at the moment. The company may have expected to have a “nice” E3 a few months ago, but there’s really nothing “nice” or fun about having all these reveals get ruined early.
Having said all that, it’s not out of the question that Microsoft’s E3 presentation could still be something special. Although there has been a considerable amount of information that has been leaked, no videos or footage has come out yet. This suggests that while some surprises have been revealed early, it appears that whatever gameplay videos or footage Microsoft will show off at its showcase is still under wraps.
As for what gamers can look forward to from Microsoft’s E3 showcase tomorrow, expect a number of announcements and gameplay footage related to Gears of War 4, Halo Wars 2, and Minecraft. With a number of new hardware rumors remaining unconfirmed, there is still the possibility that Microsoft could unveil some new VR hardware, as well as the rumored Xbox Scorpio.
With much more to come from Microsoft and other studios, be sure to check out the E3 2016 conference schedule so you don’t miss out on any exciting announcements.
