Despite impending next-generation console releases, Sony and Microsoft are continuing to support their current hardware. While the PlayStation 4 is getting games like My Friend Pedro, yesterday the Xbox Twitter account announced sweepstakes to win an Xbox One X based on the Sonic the Hedgehog movie.

Interested parties must be 18 years old, be in an Xbox Live supported region, and follow Xbox on Twitter to enter the contest, which opened at 4:00 p.m. PST yesterday and will run until 7:00 p.m. PST on April 14. Applicants can be entered into the running for this $499 console by retweeting the post with the hashtag "#SonicXboxsweepstakes." The deal comes after Paramount Pictures released Sonic the Hedgehog digitally, including on Microsoft Movies & TV.

Whoever wins the console will be privately messaged on Twitter according to the official sweepstakes rules page. While SEGA's flagship character has never been known to thrive on Microsoft's consoles, in particular, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie was hugely successful as a video game adaptation, making around $210 million worldwide in its first 10 days.

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, usage of video game-related services has surged, leading to Xbox Live going down multiple times in recent weeks.

Sonic the Hedgehog is available now digitally, and will receive a physical release on May 19.
