Mario Kart 8 has been hugely successful for Nintendo. The racing game has even gone on to become the best-selling installment in the series. While fans continue to wait for news about a possible Mario Kart 9 on the Switch, some gamers are finding new ways to race on the tracks from the game. Recently, one modder found a way to add tracks from Mario Kart 8 into Microsoft Flight Simulator.
During a Twitch livestream, a modder known as Illogicoma showed off gameplay of Microsoft Flight Simulator. However, fans noticed something different about the game. Instead of flying through locations found in the real world, Illogicoma was flying through different courses from the popular Mario Kart 8. In a new mod for the flight simulator, the modder managed to add 7 courses from the racing game. Showing the tracks on the stream, Illogicoma along with some of his friends flew through recreations of Mute City, Cloudtop Cruise, Moo Moo Meadows, Rainbow Road, Bowser’s Castle, Shy Guy Falls, and Mount Wario.
Illogicoma gave some details about how the mod was created on Twitter. According to the creator, the tracks were taken from a website called ModelsResource. The modder then used Blender2MSFS to make the 3D assets for the game. Despite not having a racing system with a way to track the number of laps in Microsoft Flight Simulator, the mod included a number of rings along the courses to show players the way to go.
While the developers of the flight simulator might not have intended for players to fly through Mario Kart tracks, they did announce that a new competitive racing mode is coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator. This future mode comes after Microsoft partnered with the Reno Air Racing Association. Players will now be able to race against friends and others across the globe at high speeds above the Nevada desert. These new races will become available as part of an upcoming expansion coming for the game this fall.
Besides using the game to race through Mario Kart tracks, some players have been doing other interesting activities with the software. Recently, players have used Microsoft Flight Simulator to fly through Hurricane Ida. Using the game’s real-time weather feature, gamers had the opportunity to fly into the heart of the powerful storm and see the impressive clouds from a new perspective.
It’s exciting to see the range of possibilities available with Microsoft Flight Simulator. While players can go on leisurely flights across the globe, the game also offers many more opportunities for those that are interested in modding the game. It will be interesting to see if Illogicoma decides to add any additional tracks from the Mario Kart series to the simulator in the future.
