Microsoft is a gaming powerhouse that continues to deliver extremely popular consoles, but it has been relatively dormant in video game development in recent years. A company that has historically pioneered some of the most influential IP's in gaming history, its more contemporary selection of titles have sadly waned in pull-power and critical acclaim.

That being said, Microsoft has recently drawn massive amounts of attention due to some record-shattering purchases of extremely influential publishing and development studios. Now with a much wider scope of content creation being done under the Microsoft name, there are many exciting Microsoft titles that are set to launch throughout 2023.

Starfield

One of the most high-profile of the upcoming releases under the Microsoft name is Starfield. Starfield is billed to be an open-world action RPG centered around space exploration, offering a "wholly new next-generation experience." The game is being published and developed by Bethesda, with Microsoft recently purchasing Bethesda's parent company ZeniMax Media for $7.5 billion in September 2020.

Starfield was originally announced all the way back in 2018, with many fans being intrigued at the unprecedented announcement of a brand-new Bethesda IP. Although solid details on the title are still few and far between, Starfield was originally billed to launch in Fall 2022, although this has now changed. Starfield was recently subject to a delay, with its revised launch date now aiming for 2023. Considering that Starfield is set to be an Xbox and PC exclusive title, many Microsoft fans are understandably disappointed that this anticipated title won't be coming out for some time.

Redfall

Redfall also belongs to Microsoft as a result of the Bethesda purchase. Another open-world title, this game is best described as a cooperative first-person shooter with a PvE focus. Redfall sees players fighting off a sinister vampire threat within the cut-off island town of Redfall, Massachusetts, gaining a specific combat role from one of Redfall's playable characters, who all have unique skills. Supporting up to four-player co-op, players will be encouraged to form the perfect party to counter the blood-sucking hordes.

Redfall is being developed by the Austin branch of Arkane Studios, another subsidiary of ZeniMax Media. Sadly, like Starfield, Redfall was also recently delayed and will now be released in 2023 as opposed to its previous estimation of Summer 2022. Also like Starfield, Redfall will be an Xbox Game Pass title on day one of its eventual launch, further compounding the blow of its delayed release.

Other Potential Microsoft 2023 Releases

One title that could be releasing under the Microsoft name in 2023 is Diablo 4, being both published and developed by Blizzard Entertainment. It must be said, however, this would be entirely contingent upon the record-breaking purchase of Activison Blizzard by Microsoft being finalized by that point.

Diablo 4 is set to be the long-anticipated return of the storied Diablo franchise, Blizzard's dungeon-crawler action RPG series. Highly customizable and randomized, Diablo 4 will offer much in the way of replayability, as well as party-based gameplay for those who wish to play co-operatively. Announced at BlizzCon in 2019, Diablo 4 is expected to release after 2022, with an official date not yet being confirmed, and very well may be under the Microsoft banner upon its eventual release.

Avowed is another Microsoft title that could potentially release in 2023. A gritty first-person fantasy role-playing game developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Xbox Game Studios, Avowed is another title that is set to release on Xbox Game Pass. Originally being announced in 2020, anticipating fans could very well receive the title in 2023, given its current lack of an official release date.

While there are many other titles that are currently in development under the Microsoft umbrella, many are currently without solid information regarding their release dates. However, with the highly-anticipated Xbox and Bethesda showcase set to happen on June 12, fans may learn of some big updates regarding other potential Microsoft titles coming in 2023.
