Black Panther gave fans one of the MCU's most three-dimensional villains in Erik Killmonger, the former U.S. Navy SEAL (played by Michael B. Jordan) who seeks to overthrow his cousin T'Challa. With Black Panther: Wakanda Forever releasing this year and fans still hoping for the return of Killmonger to the MCU, Jordan has now opened up about that possibility.

Since his role in Black Panther, fans have seen plenty of Jordan on the big screen in several projects. Recently, Jordan starred in A Journal for Jordan, and he is also starring (and directing) as Adonis Creed yet again in the upcoming boxing sequel Creed 3, which is set for a November 2022 release.

While promoting his new film A Journal for Jordan, Jordan spoke with MTV UK about whether he would be open to returning to the MCU for future projects. "It's a character in a world that I love so much," Jordan said. "Who knows? As we all know, Marvel has their plans and their things and, you know, how things are gonna shake out."

Other than Jordan's work in Black Panther, he also reprised his role as Killmonger (voicing the character in two episodes) in Marvel Studios' What If...? for Disney Plus, an animated series exploring alternate timelines in the multiverse. And now with Andrew Garfield able to keep his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home a secret for many months before the film's theatrical release, there is definitely a possibility that Jordan is doing the same, perhaps for a cameo in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. With so many multiverse storylines occuring in Marvel Studios' Phase 4 projects, it is certainly possible for Killmonger to find his way back into the MCU in some form.

As for the Black Panther sequel, it is still unclear what the film will truly be about. After the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman back in August 2020, many fans believed that the role of Black Panther should be recast, including Boseman's brother, in order for the character to live on for younger generations. But according to Marvel Studios' president Kevin Feige, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will focus more on Wakanda's rich history as well as seeing Letitia Wright's Shuri in a more prominent role.

With other big Marvel Studios projects set to release this summer, fans can expect a Black Panther 2 trailer to drop around then. What is known about the sequel, however, is that the cast will feature many returning characters along with new additions. Newcomers include Michaela Coel in an undisclosed role and Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams / Iron Heart, a genius inventor who creates a suit that rivals Tony Stark's Iron Man armor. A series for Disney Plus titled Ironheart is in development.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is finally set to arrive in theaters on November 11th, 2022.
