It's been about 2 years, give or take, since the debut of the MCU's Black Panther. The superhero film starred the late Chadwick Boseman in the title role of Black Panther, the ruler and most powerful combatant in Wakanda, a fictional African country hidden away from the world. His main rival in that film was Killmonger, played by Michael B. Jordan, and though his character died at the end of the film, Jordan isn't ruling out a return to the role.

It was during an interview with People Magazine that Jordan was asked if he would ever be interested in returning to the MCU as Killmonger if Marvel requested, not that he doesn't have other projects to attend to. Jordan is making his directorial debut with Creed III, as well as being involved in Without Remorse and Journal for Jordan, two other film projects.

In the role of Killmonger, Jordan appeared as a one and done villain for the Marvel universe, as many of the antagonists from Marvel films have little to do once their first appearance is over. In Jordan's particular case, Killmonger resented Wakanda's isolationist attitude and wanted to rule the country so he could right the injustices of racism using military force around the world. Boseman's Black Panther eventually reclaims his throne, however, and Killmonger dies in Wakanda, though the battle does lead to Wakanda revealing itself to the world.

In comic books, however, no one really truly dies and if Marvel really wanted to, they could easily come up with any number of reasons why Killmonger actually survived that fateful day. Though it's unclear what story he might have left to tell, Michael B. Jordan suggested he'd be willing to return to the role if Marvel asked.

Though the actor didn't say whether or not he'd been approached about any such return in Black Panther 2, he did give an optimistic statement to fans: "being in that world in a character that I loved playing, and working with [writer/director Ryan Coogler] and all that good stuff, it's family. We created a family over there, so to be able to be in that world again is something that, I think, will always be on the table in some capacity."

That's not a confirmation of anything, of course, but it is nice to know that he would be interested in joining Black Panther 2 if such plans were ever set in motion. Fans will just have to keep an eye out for any further news regarding Jordan's involvement in the future of the MCU.

Black Panther 2 is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 8, 2022.
