Scream queen favorite Mia Goth recently gave a sneak peek into what audiences might expect from Ti West's latest installment in the popular X franchise, MaXXXine.

Goth, who starred as porn star final girl Maxxxine Minx in the throwback '70s horror film, X, followed up her dual role as both final girl/killer in the first film with the prequel, Pearl, which told the origin story of X's villain. The original film and the prequel, released quickly on its heels, both garnered rave reviews among horror fans. In the fall, West announced a third installment in the X film series, Maxxxine, set to take place in the mid-1980s.

Mia Goth recently told Variety that the upcoming Maxxxine is “the best script of all three,” with filming set to begin later this year. "It’s going to be the best movie of the three. We’re all so tight now. This is going to be our third movie we’re working on together and everyone’s coming back together, so it’s bringing the band all back together again. We just have a shorthand with each other. We know how everybody works and we’re all so excited," Goth said. "It’s the biggest story of the three with the highest stakes and Maxine has gone through so much at this point. So when we find her in this new world, she’s just a force to be reckoned with and she goes through some pretty wild adventures."

Goth's statement bodes well for the third film, with two excellent entries into the horror genre already in the books. The success and quality of the two existing films owe much to Goth herself, who worked closely with West to create and flesh out the characters of Maxxxine and Pearl. During the production of X, Goth reportedly suggested telling the backstory of Pearl, the first film’s illustrious elderly slasher, proposing the idea of a trilogy to West centered around the characters in the film.

Goth is no stranger to the horror genre and is quickly becoming one of Hollywood's most in-demand scream queens, starring in Gore Verbinski's A Cure for Wellness, Sergio G. Sánchez's Marrowbone, Claire Denis' High Life, and Luca Guadagnino's Suspiria remake. Expectations are high for her most recent project, Infinity Pool, directed by Brandon Cronenberg, set to premiere at Sundance 2023, with Goth starring opposite Alexander Skarsgård in a surreal and violent body-horror thriller.

Maxxxine is in development.
