Farming materials to craft a new weapon that makes it easier to farm more materials for a newer weapon is a core part of Monster Hunter Rise's gameplay loop, or any MH game for that matter, past or present. For example, one material that is used in a wide variety of Monster Hunter Rise's equipment is the Colossal Bone. Colossal Bone can be obtained as a reward in a variety of Low and High-Rank quests. And, the quests will be the best way for players to farm the material as only one monster even has a chance of dropping this item.
26 Games With The Best DLC Content, Ranked
As much as some gamers hate downloadable content, there is some really good DLC out there. Sometimes the DLC is even the best part of the game. When farming Colossal Bone or any other Monster Hunter crafting component, patience is the name of the game. It may take several hunts to get one component to drop. Thankfully, there are a few methods and routes players can use to hopefully get this done a bit quicker and go back to the actual fun part of Rise, which is, of course, hunting monsters.
Updated October 2nd, 2023 by Jacob Buchalter: While some may think that Monster Hunter Rise is a bit of a 'dead game' nowadays considering (at the time of writing this) the last Title Update was 5+ months ago, they'd be wrong. There are still thousands of players every year discovering or rediscovering this franchise for the first time using games like Monster Hunter World or Monster Hunter Rise to do so. And, while Monster Hunter Now does seem to be the new MH game to talk about these days, there are still plenty of people playing Rise that need some help with certain materials. So, with that in mind, let's go in-depth on all the specifics of the Colossal Bone material.
Where To Get Colossal Bone
There are two ways to get Colossal Bone: One, as a quest reward from specific quests. Two, very rarely (about 8 percent) as a quest reward for hunting Goss Harag. To be more specific, here are all the quests that have a chance of rewarding the Hunter with Colossal Bone:
Name Of Quest |
Quest Type & Rank |
Colossal Bone Chance |
---|---|---|
Abominable Snow-Beast |
6-Star Village Quest |
20 Percent |
The Blizzard Blender |
3-Star Low-Rank Hub Quest |
20 Percent |
Tail to Tail |
3-Star Low-Rank Hub Quest |
18 Percent |
Beastly Chaos |
3-Star Low-Rank Hub Quest |
18 Percent |
The Frost Islands Arena |
4-Star High-Rank Hub Quest |
10 Percent for 2x Bone |
Even Cute Things Have Fangs |
4-Star High-Rank Hub Quest |
10 Percent for 2x Bone |
Blue, Round, and Cute |
4-Star High-Rank Hub Quest |
10 Percent for 2x Bone |
Heart of a Warrior |
3-Star Low-Rank Event Quest |
18 Percent |
The Tiniest Snowbaron! |
4-Star High-Rank Event Quest |
10 Percent for 2x Bone |
Out of Sight, Out of Mind's Eye |
6-Star High-Rank Event Quest |
10 Percent for 2x Bone |
Because a lot of these are relatively quick quests or 'easier' quests in the grand scheme of Monster Hunter Rise's difficulty, it's actually efficient to farm Colossal Bone in a co-op environment. This way, the mission is completed faster, multiple players get something out of it, and the co-op party can even delegate one person towards farming another type of material while the other person focuses on the Colossal Bone.
Crafting Recipes Where Colossal Bone Is Used
Now, compared to some other Monster Hunter: Rise materials, the Colossal Bones are used in quite a few Equipment blueprints. Primarily, it's weapons, but there's also the Goss Harag armor set, which is by far one of the best-looking sets for players to make Layered Armor of.

Colossal Bone Farming Tips
And lastly, let's just go over a few simple tips for farming Colossal Bones for any players who plan to build quite a few of the items that require them. These are just basic things that players can do to make the whole process just a bit less painful:
Tip |
Explanation |
---|---|
Bring Two Palicos |
Bring two Palico with the Pilfer skill instead of a Palamute on any quests that have a Goss Harag. |
Farm 'The Abominable Snow-Beast' Quest |
The Abominable Snow-Beast quest is one of the quickest for farming Colossal Bones, as the target is a Goss Harag, there's a percentage to get the item as a reward, and monsters in Village quests are much easier than their Hub quest counterparts. |
Use the Event Quest 'Heart of a Warrior' |
Alternatively, the Event Quest 'Heart of a Warrior' can make it a bit easier as well, since this is an Arena quest where players fight a Goss Harag (and a Magnamalo). This way, they don't need to waste time collecting Spiribirds or getting from Point A to B, and they can use Wyvern Riding to have Mangamalo deal a ton of damage to Goss Horag pretty early on. |
