In Metroid Prime players have to face off against all kinds of difficult foes, but one particularly nasty example of Space Pirate ingenuity is the Cloaked Drone. A combat drone equipped with a cloaking device, meaning that Samus can only see it using the light emitted by its weapons and other machinery, along with the Thermal Visor.

Metroid Prime does have an X-Ray Visor that would probably help here, but there's no way to get it before the fight, rendering the Drone unscannable and also impossible to lock-on to. This means players will have to manually aim and dodge away from its lasers and turret-mounted guns. Fortunately, it has some critical weaknesses that make it easy to kill with some good preparations.

How to Beat the Cloaked Drone

Metroid Prime Remastered_Cloaked Drone_Wavebuster

On entering the Dynamo in the Phazon Mines, players will be immediately accosted by the Cloaked Drone, whose immunity to lock-on and deadly array of weapons make it particularly frustrating to fight. It flies around the room firing at Samus, so players will need to dodge quickly and try to aim for it with the Wave Beam. The Wave Beam is one of the most effective weapons against the drone, and thus a reliable way of damaging it.

Players who have at least 35 missiles will be able to take this thing down even easier, though. The Wavebuster is a special charge combo that can be performed by charging up the Wave Beam and then holding down the missile button, and fires a lightning stream that auto-tracks enemies and deals a huge amount of damage. It costs 10 missiles to activate and an additional 5 missiles each second to keep firing, but its auto tracking and massive damage means it is able to eliminate the Cloaked Drone easily and with minimal effort.

Another option for players wanting to take it out quickly is to simply fire a super missile at it. A direct hit with a super missile should destroy it immediately, as long as players are able to actually hit it with the missile. This requires a touch more precision than the Wavebuster strategy, but isn't nearly as ammo intensive as the former option, so it is useful for players that are confident in their aiming abilities.
