It's been nearly two decades since the release of the last main series 2D Metroid game, but the incredibly long wait for Metroid Dread is nearly over. The highly-anticipated Nintendo Switch exclusive game is set to launch in just one month's time, with Nintendo releasing various details about the game in the days and weeks leading up to its launch to build fan anticipation. The latest Metroid Dread reveal focuses on some of the weapons that protagonist Samus Aran will have at her disposal in the new game.

Nintendo has confirmed two additional Arm Cannon upgrades that players can acquire for Samus Aran during the course of Metroid Dread. The first is the Ice Missile upgrade, which allow players to freeze enemies in place and then attack them while they're frozen. The Metroid Dread Ice Missiles can be used as more than just an offensive tool, though, with Nintendo suggesting that players can also freeze enemies to use as platforms.

The other Metroid Dread Arm Cannon upgrade detailed by Nintendo is the Storm Missile. The Storm Missile doesn't sound like it will be quite as versatile as the Ice Missile, but it should prove plenty useful in combat. Samus will be able to use the Storm Missiles to fight the various enemies she encounters in Metroid Dread, as they can lock on to up to five targets at a single time.

While this latest update from Nintendo has focused on some of the Metroid Dread Arm Cannon upgrades players can collect, other recent updates have focused on other aspects of the game instead. For instance, Nintendo recently confirmed the return of Super Metroid villain Kraid, who is one of the more recognizable and iconic villains from the Metroid franchise. The version of Kraid that Samus encounters in Metroid Dread will look a little different, though, and it will definitely be interesting to find out more about him.

There have been rumors of a Metroid Dread-focused Nintendo Direct event taking place sometime between now and the game's launch in November, though nothing official has been announced to date. If one does take place, it seems like a great opportunity for Nintendo to reveal even more about Metroid Dread and what fans can expect from the game. Maybe they'll even get to see more of Samus Aran's missiles and other abilities in action. Regardless, fans don't have to wait all that much longer to finally play Metroid Dread for themselves.

Metroid Dread launches October 7, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
