In Metroid Dread, there are quite a few areas with extreme temperatures that can cause Samus' energy reserves to get depleted dangerously quickly. As such, players will need to avoid places with extreme cold and extreme heat until they get the proper suit upgrades to avoid taking damage.
The first suit upgrade that players can pick up to help in extreme temperature areas is the Varia Suit, which one can use to traverse the hotter regions in Metroid Dread. Getting it is pretty straightforward, therefore gamers should grab it before doing most of their volcanic area exploration.
How To Get The Varia Suit
Ironically, the Varia Suit upgrade is found just after an extreme heat area at the top of the Ataria region. Players will have to traverse the super-heated area as quickly as possible to reach the mostly linear path that can be taken to reach the room holding the Varia Suit. This will be impossible to do at low energy, thanks to the constant energy-draining effect of extreme heat areas, therefore it's crucial for players to have as much HP as possible before attempting this mission--being at full energy is the best idea.
Unlike many other upgrades in the game, the Varia Suit does not require players to defeat a boss or E.M.M.I robot to obtain it. In a large room above the very hot area that one just had to traverse to get there will be a statue holding an Item Sphere. This Item Sphere contains the Varia Suit, which will only take a quick blast of energy to unlock before Samus can grab it.
What The Varia Suit Does
While the Varia Suit protects Samus from the constant damage effect of being in an extreme heat area, it, unfortunately, does not make her immune to all heat-related damage.
Firstly, the Varia Suit does not protect Samus from the damage taken by lava. If players accidentally step into some lava while traversing an extreme heat area, they will still lose a lot of energy.
Additionally, the Varia Suit will not prevent damage taken from fire-based attacks launched by enemies. In fact, this upgrade will not even decrease the damage taken from such attacks either, meaning that its only true purpose is to help one traverse extreme heat areas. That means that players cannot tank hits from foes that have flaming projectile attacks such as the fearsome Kraid boss in the Cataris region.
