Metro: Last Light Release Date

Koch Media, who acquired publishing rights to Metro: Last Light from THQ back in January, are staying true to their word that the title will retain planned 2013 release window, and their new role as publisher won’t be slowing development one bit.

Any fans worried about the new publisher’s plans for the game can now rest easy, as the studio believes delaying the game by just a little – not a lot – is all that will be required to make the Moscow-based shooter sparkle.

Those who have been keeping an eye on Metro: Last Light already know it has been keeping fans excited via some intense trailers. In other words: Deep Silver’s announcement of a May 14, 2013 release date couldn’t have come a moment to soon.

Koch Media CEO Klemens Kundratitz believes the two month delay is the best thing for the final product, elaborating further in a statemen said so during the release date announcement this week:

“The new release date is the ideal way to strike the balance between bringing the best out of Metro: Last Light and not keep the fans waiting longer than necessary.  We won’t leave that time unexploited and will work closely together with 4A Games to make the game even better. It will receive all the attention it deserves.  We would like to thank all of the Metro fans for their patience. And we can assure them that we have a lot more coming their way with the franchise.”

Two months isn’t a massive delay by any means, though there’s no word yet on whether 4A Games will use the additional time to add multiplayer to the game. The game was originally intended for a 2012 release, but the studio reportedly wanted to spend more time focusing on the single player campaign.

Koch Media intends to refresh both the Metro and Saints Row franchises this year, so fans should expect some large announcements in the coming months. Metro 2033 certainly set a high standard, so we’ll have to see if the follow-up can hold a candle – or even a winding flashlight – to the original.

What do you think, Ranters? Will you be purchasing the game in May, or waiting for a few more details and gameplay information?

Metro: Last Light will hit PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 on May 14th, 2013.
