For many, Metro Exodus is indubitably one of the most anticipated horror games of 2019, especially considering its release is nearing every day. Building on that, developer 4A Games has showcased a new trailer focused on the weapons Artyom will use in the post-apocalyptic Russian wasteland, as he deals with the issues of both a nuclear winter and terrifying, mutated monsters.

The trailer first highlights the new customization options available to Metro Exodus players. Unlike previous entries, players will be able to mod and change their weapons in the field, allowing for players to have full control over their play style. The video gives an excellent glimpse at this newly introduced system, but sadly for customization enthusiasts, it is just a glimpse.

Then, breaking it down by weapon class, the video goes into detail on handguns, shotguns, rifles, and special weapons. It also goes further into detail on certain weapons within each class such as the revolver for handguns, the shambler for shotguns, the valve for rifles, and the crossbow for special weapons. Notably, it seems players will be using makeshift weapons from the Russian wasteland alongside pre-made Metro weapons, allowing for both consistency and suitability in Metro Exodus.

This showcase, as well as the nearing release date, is a real gift to fans of the franchise. After all, many were dismayed when Metro Exodus was delayed into 2019, but it seems as if development since has run smoothly, given that the release date was recently moved up by a week. Plus, the tiny glimpse of gameplay showcased in the trailer is as promising as well.

Taking all of this into consideration, plus the powerful presence the game had at E3 2018, it seems safe to say that the hype behind Metro Exodus is about as real as it gets. Whether it lives up to it or not remains to be seen, but it does seem ready to take the stage.

Metro Exodus launches on February 15, 2019 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
