Recently, Deep Silver executive producer John Bloch spoke with the Official PlayStation Magazine UK about the upcoming post-apocalyptic title Metro Exodus. The latest news hit reveals an interesting tidbit about the script for the game, and considering that it is one of the most anticipated games for 2018, fans of the series may be in for a treat.

In the interview, Bloch revealed that the script for Metro Exodus is larger than Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light combined. This is, in part, due to the larger sandbox-style gameplay included in Exodus. Bloch’s full statement follows:

“To put this into perspective, Metro Exodus’ script is larger than both 2033’s and Last Last’s combined, including all DLC. We will encounter new societies, religions, ways of life, environments, monsters, and mutants. Some will seem familiar in some ways, and some will be completely new. As life continued after the apocalypse, it evolved in different ways outside Moscow. Some areas are irradiated in similar ways to Moscow, and some areas are clear of any toxins or destruction.”

While this revelation about what to expect outside of Moscow is certainly exciting, it is equally terrifying. A trailer released at The Game Awards 2017 showing Artyom in the frozen wasteland of Russia facing, among other dangers, a pack of terrifying, mutated hounds. All of these new additions may contribute to the larger script size, yet there is another factor: choice.

Metro Exodus includes a day/night cycle and wide-open areas that provide numerous options for the player to choose from, so it seems the sandbox-style gameplay expands the player’s option. Speaking of this, Bloch also stated, “Choosing when and how to approach different situations will have measurable effects on the player’s experience while completing tasks. Approaching a bandit camp at night might prove advantageous to a more stealthy player, but there may be more bands around to have to deal with.”

With the script size, sandbox-style gameplay, and emphasis on choice, it seems Metro Exodus may be a successful follow-up to 2033 and Last Light. While that remains to be seen, the fact is that it's larger than the two combined, which with what little information is available now, may be exciting to its fan base.

Metro Exodus is set to release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2018.
