Following Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition's release on PC today, it's now been confirmed that the popular post-apocalyptic action-adventure game will be launching on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on June 18. The upgraded port will be free for those who already own it on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, while players can also get their hands on a physical version titled The Complete Edition, which includes the game and its two DLCs in one package.

The announcement was made via the Metro Exodus website, which revealed the release date alongside an array of features that will appear in the next-generation versions. As expected, the enhanced ports will run in 4K at 60 frames-per-second, while they'll also feature ray-tracing throughout.

4A Games also promises that the game will offer immersive spatial audio and controller latency improvements for those playing on Xbox Series X, while it'll incorporate the DualSense's haptic feedback features on PlayStation 5, although the studio doesn't mention which ones exactly. Finally, field of view options will be added, which will let players adjust the camera. All in all, it looks to be a significant update to Metro Exodus, bringing the 2019 game to next-generation platforms with plenty of fresh features and visual upgrades.

Metro Exodus is the third entry in the Metro franchise and follows the story of protagonist Artyom as he attempts to find a new home for his people. While previous titles were confined to the claustrophobic Russian Metro tunnels, Exodus was the first to take place mostly above ground, seeing Artyom and other survivors board a train and venture into the unknown. It offered a range of open hubs to explore, with new mutated enemies to face, hard-hitting weapons to collect, and side objectives to complete.

Although many assumed Metro Exodus was something of a send-off to the franchise4A Games is allegedly working on a follow-up. Although it's still in early development, the studio discussed two Metro projects during a 10-year anniversary update, claiming it's currently hard at work on more single-player content as well as some sort of multiplayer spin-off.

It assured players that Metro's future online component won't detract from its next single-player entry, claiming that the team currently intends to keep the two separate. In the meantime, players can look forward to jumping back into Metro Exodus today on PC, revisiting Artyom's latest adventure with ray-tracing, enhanced 4K visuals, and a smoother frame rate than ever before.

Metro Exodus is available now on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Stadia, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions currently in development.
