In more ways than one, Metro Exodus is a departure from series norms. The game removes protagonist Artyom from the claustrophobic tunnels that give the series its namesake, and instead lets him explore a series of semi-open world hubs, largely above ground. However, while Metro Exodus does some things different, it also retains some elements of the previous games, like having multiple endings, for instance.

There are two different endings in Metro Exodus. Depending on what players do throughout the game, they will either see the "Bad" ending or the "Good" ending, with the latter likely being the canonical ending, if past games in the series are anything to go by. That being said, there are specific actions players have to take throughout the story if they hope to see the Good ending.

Please note that the rest of this article will have spoilers for Metro Exodus.

To get the Good ending in Metro Exodus, players just need to be a "good" person. This means knocking out enemies instead of killing them whenever possible. It also means going out of the way to help any people in need. For example, players are more likely to unlock the "Good" ending if they complete the various side quests that they encounter during their journey.

If Metro Exodus players want to see the Bad ending, then they just need to do the exact opposite. That means being a jerk, killing people instead of knocking them out, and largely ignore the side quests and extra content.

For those who just want to know the differences between the Good and Bad endings, they are quite different from one another. In the Bad ending, Artyom dies from radiation poisoning while trying to find medicine for Anna. In the Good ending, Miller, Anna's father, sacrifices himself to save Artyom. The game then ends with Artyom and the surviving members of the crew finding a place to build their new home above ground.

Metro Exodus players interested in fully completing the game will need to unlock both endings, as there are achievements/trophies tied to them.

Metro Exodus is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
