With Hideo Kojima no longer overseeing the franchise, many people were worried regarding the direction that Konami was taking the beloved Metal Gear franchise. Metal Gear Survive completely flips the traditional formula by introducing survival elements like crafting, base building, and personal status indicators, while also adding in other unique elements such as zombie soldiers and poison mists that can kill players quickly if they're not prepared. While all these changes to the core systems, it's only fitting then that the game's end user license agreement is equally as strange and different.

Over on Twitter, Matt Paprocki noticed a strange portion of the EULA document that typically appears at the start of a game. While many agreements of this type focus on game-specific activities or company related rules, Metal Gear Survive takes things a step further by actively preventing users from using the game to date other players. Specifically, players who accept the terms are technically agreeing to not seek a relationship with another player, or participate in acts which Konami deems is made for the sole purpose of causing a relationship. This includes relationships, acts, and socializing limited to within the content.

It that's not odd enough, the EULA goes on to also prevent players who accept the terms from using the game to promote a campaign, either a pre or post-election campaign, or engage in the act of participating in politics of any kind while playing. While most players likely skip over this document, Metal Gear Survive proves that it may just be a good thing to stop and read the fine print.

For as comical as some of these rules are, Konami certainly isn't the first or last company to use the EULA to try and steer player behavior. Killing Floor 2 attempted to use the EULA to stop players from cyber-bullying each other online. Violators who were caught gave Tripwire the right to completely terminate their license key, completely removing access to the game. More recently, Epic Games legally went after a couple of Fortnite cheaters who violated the EULA by changing the game's code to harm the integrity of the product. Still, these games didn't attempt to regulate a player's love life quite like Konami however.

Metal Gear Survive is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
