It's been a rough few months for Konami as they deal with the backlash over cancelling the highly anticipated horror game Silent Hills (formerly P.T.) and trying to navigate the murky waters of the rumored split with famed developer, Hideo Kojima. With E3 2015 taking place this week, the company is choosing to focus all of its efforts on supporting and highlighting the many features of upcoming stealth action title, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Konami has released a brand new trailer for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain specifically teasing plot details and highlighting gameplay while displaying the franchises panache for crazy and insane moments.

The five minute trailer, directed and edited by Hideo Kojima, gives fans a great look at the game, including several important characters such as Big Boss, Quiet, Skull Face and Kaz Miller. The trailer also delves into some violent scenes filled with blood, surgeries, and medical procedures. The tone certainly comes across as serious, mysterious and intense.

Language also appears to be a core focus of the trailer, focusing on themes like communication and how important it is in terms of development, civilization, and how it can unite or destroy an army. The footage appears to highlight different ways characters like Big Boss and Skull Face intend to run things being in charge of different groups of people. There's certainly a ton of information to unpack from this latest trailer.

Longtime fans will also want to pay particular attention to the end of the trailer as Kojima hints at potential links to other games in the franchise including the Les Enfant Terribles project. Might Solid Snake and Liquid Snake have a role to play in The Phantom Pain?

Based on this trailer, The Phantom Pain looks to be another solid entry in the Metal Gear franchise, bringing together not just the quirky nature the series is known for, but also give players the freedom to explore a world that is reportedly 200 times bigger than the one presented in Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.

The Phantom Pain continues the story line set in motion during Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, detailing how Big Boss goes on to found a new mercenary group called the Diamond Dogs, who seek revenge on those who destroyed his former group, the Militaires Sans Frontières. According to reports, the Konami-published game will take place in locations around the globe including Afghanistan and Africa.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is due out on September 1 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
