First look trailers of both HD Collections of Metal Gear Solid as well as ICO and Shadow of the Colossus have been released at the Tokyo Game Show this week.

Each franchise, in their own respective rights, have held a special place in gamer's hearts as leading titles for the PlayStation 2. Presently with HD gaming in full force, developers are looking to upgrade these classics to give you the full force they were meant to harness when they arrive later this year.

There have been separate trailers for ICO and Shadow of the Colossus a few months ago, but we were left in the dark in terms of a release date. Rest assured, the highly anticipated wait for the ICO and Shadow of the Colossus HD Collection can now end as Sony has announced that this must have collection will be released for the PS3 on September 30 in the UK - three days behind the US launch on September 27. With this mega upgrade to PS3 standards, we will hopefully be just as blown away as we were when they first appeared on the PS2.

Both games will be on one spectacular Blu-ray disc bundle.

Like the ICO and Shadow of the Colossus update, Konami had no confirmed release date when they went to E3 to announce the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection either. Konami came to TGS guns blazing with a set date for the MGS HD Collection - November 23 for Japan, but still no word on the exact date in November that a US version will be released.

If you have been a true ongoing follower of the Metal Gear Solid series then you know how unnecessary this HD Collection is, but at the same time - we know it will be completely amazing. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater are both incredible titles and improving them is like sprinkling gold on top of diamonds.

From what the trailer gives us we can see that MGS2 will not be the original version, but come as the MGS2 Substance Edition with Snake Tales and VR Missions - as well as other incentives:

  • Remastered from the ground up for PS3 & Xbox360
  • Stunning 1080p graphics
  • 60 frames-per-second graphics
  • Icons, sound effects, and all fonts upgraded for HD
  • User interface rebalanced for HD
  • Added right analog stick input and force feedback*
  • Features Trophies on PS3 and Achievements on Xbox 360
  • Worldwide matchmaking for multiplayer (tentative)
  • TRANSFARRING (save data sharing) compatible with PSP version*

*Applies to METAL GEAR SOLID: PEACE WALKER.

Do you feel any of these HD upgrades are necessary or should Team ICO and Konami be focusing more effort on producing newer games rather than rehashing old favorites? Does owning a lot of favorite games all on one disc increase your interest in owning these titles?

Again, the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is set to arrive on the PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms in the US this November while the ICO and Shadow of the Colossus HD Collection is set to release in the US on September 27, followed by the UK on September 30th.
