Remakes are all the rage nowadays, with blockbuster franchises such as Halo and The Legend of Zelda both seeing revamped versions hit their respective platforms just this year. High definition re-releases are one of the safest moves a developer can make and while the act of revisiting too many games in a short amount of time is often open to wide criticism throughout the entire internet, every once and a while it's nice to play through a classic game.
Metal Gear Solid is one such game that fans would love to see a remake of, and it seems entirely possible - given that the series has had several different remakes throughout its existence. We're even between releases of MGS remakes Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, but franchise creator, Hideo Kojima, seems to have mixed feelings when it comes to the idea of a potential re-imagining of his original baby.
The legendary developer recently spoke to Official PlayStation Magazine, and he shared his thoughts on the idea of a remake for the PS1 classic.
"There are a lot of people wanting remakes of the original, and as producer I want to answer those calls, but as a creator I'm not very interested in going back. If we were to do it, it would have to be a total remake — the only thing that would be the same would be the story. If it happened at some point I would stay as a producer, but would have to hand off most of the actual creating."
If this product does come to light, then hopefully it's the re-imagining that Mr. Kojima has envisioned, and not a product that can simply tote 'HD' at the end of its title.
