The Metal Gear Solid movie, based on the critically acclaimed action series, already has a director; Kong: Skull Island's Jordan Vogt-Roberts has been signed onto the project for several years. The cast of the movie has yet to be announced, however, and some stars are taking this opportunity to throw their own names into the ring.

That's what Oscar Isaac did during an interview about his upcoming movie, Triple Frontier. The actor, who is likely best known for his role as Poe Dameron in Star Wars, was asked what video game movie tie-in he would like to star in if given the chance. Isaac was quick to respond with, "Metal Gear Solid. I'm throwing my hat in for that one," right away. Asked who he would play, Isaac had no doubts about it - he would want to take on the role of Solid Snake.

Isaac's comment has already gotten a response from Vogt-Roberts. In screenshots of Twitter DMs with artist BossLogic, the director called Isaac "one of my favorite actors." Vogt-Roberts also got BossLogic to make a mock-up of Isaac as Snake, with some impressive results. The Metal Gear Solid director explained that "the full process required to cast an icon hasn't even started," however, "the ball's in Oscar's court."

Star Wars and Metal Gear fans have responded positively to the idea of Oscar Isaac taking on such a big role. Whoever is cast in the role of Solid Snake, though, fans have a lot of confidence that Jordan Vogt-Roberts and the rest of the cast and crew will be able to make a great video game tie-in. Video game movies have a poor reputation, and though recent releases such as the Tomb Raider movie has helped with that, most would agree that the bad examples outweigh the good.

However, Vogt-Roberts' teases about the movie's production, such as meetings with Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima, has made fans feel optimistic. With casting not yet started, the movie is a while away from being released, but fans say that things look good.
