The Metal Gear Solid movie has been in the works for years now, but besides Jordan Vogt-Roberts serving as the director, there hasn't been much news about what fans can expect from the film. Now that's changed, as the Metal Gear Solid movie has cast its Solid Snake.

According to a report by Deadline, Oscar Isaac will play Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid film adaptation. According to Deadline, a production start date for the Metal Gear Solid movie has yet to be decided, but now that Isaac is attached to star, it should become a higher priority for Sony Pictures moving forward. Of course, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic could mean that fans will still have to wait longer than usual to see anything substantial from the Metal Gear Solid movie.

Isaac's best-known role so far has been as Poe Dameron in Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy, but he has also appeared in many other blockbuster films, including X-Men: Apocalypse. Looking ahead, Isaac is expected to portray Moon Knight in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he also has a starring role in the upcoming Dune reboot, which will premiere simultaneously in theaters and on the HBO Max streaming service next year.

The Metal Gear Solid movie isn't the only video game film adaptation that's in the works. Hot off the heels of Sonic the Hedgehog's big box office success, a number of video game movie adaptations are in various stages of development. December will see the premiere of the Monster Hunter movie, whereas 2021 will see the release of two of the more hotly-anticipated video game movie adaptations.

The Resident Evil movie reboot, which is looking to be a more accurate recreation of the video games, will premiere at some point in 2021, as will the Mortal Kombat movie reboot. The Mortal Kombat movie, like the aforementioned Dune, will be releasing in theaters and on HBO Max on the same day. It was originally slated for release in January, but its release date has been pushed back indefinitely.

In the meantime, hopefully this casting announcement means fans can look forward to Metal Gear Solid movie news on a more regular basis. It's believed that the film will adapt the PS1 Metal Gear Solid video game's story, and Vogt-Roberts has spoken in the past how he wants to be faithful to the source material and Hideo Kojima's vision. Needless to say, it will definitely be interesting to see how it all pans out, and how Isaac approaches the role of Solid Snake.

The Metal Gear Solid movie is in development.
