Yesterday, eagle-eyed Reddit users noticed that a PlayStation 4 port of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection was listed on the portfolio site of Armature, the studio that handled the PS Vita version of the game. This led many to believe that the collection would be making its way to PS4 at some point in the near future, but we now know that's not the case.

This is according to Jonathan Zamkoff, the head of business development at Armature. According to Zamkoff, the listing was merely a typo, and shouldn't be taken as confirmation that Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is in the works for PS4. Zamkoff also made it a point to note that it also shouldn't be taken as a sign that Armature is working on any kind of Metal Gear Solid game. So if Konami is planning on bringing classic Metal Gear Solid games to current-gen consoles, Armature has nothing to do with it.

Fans that were excited about yesterday's rumors are sure to be disappointed that Metal Gear Solid HD Collection isn't coming to PS4. After all, it would give them a chance to relive some of the franchise's most memorable moments without having to dig out their old consoles. As it stands, only the most recent entries in the series are playable on PS4 and Xbox One.

A PS4 port of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection could have gone a long way in appeasing fans that have been alienated by some of Konami's decisions over the past few years. These decisions include the cancellation of Silent Hills, the firing of legendary game developer Hideo Kojima, making pachinko machines instead of new video games, and more.

More recently, Konami upset fans with the announcement of Metal Gear Survive. The internet backlash against Metal Gear Survive has been significant, with many criticizing it for its departure from series norms and for being made without the involvement of Kojima. While many fans aren't likely to give it a chance, Metal Gear Survive is due out February 22, and it will be interesting to see how the public responds to it.

In the meantime, it's unfortunate that Metal Gear Solid HD Collection isn't in the works for PS4. However, maybe Konami will take note of the excitement surrounding the rumor, and decide to port the collection as a way to try to regain some trust from fans.

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is available now for PS3, PS Vita, and Xbox 360.
