Update: Armature Studio has stated that Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is not in the works for PS4. Original story follows.

It's no secret that the upcoming Metal Gear Survive has been divisive in the Metal Gear Solid community. Its departure from series norms and the unceremonious departure of franchise creator Hideo Kojima have rubbed fans the wrong way, but Metal Gear Solid purists on PS4 may soon have some classic Metal Gear Solid experiences to look forward to.

Eagle-eyed users on Reddit have noticed that game studio Armature has added the PlayStation 4 to the list of platforms its port of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is available on. Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, for those unaware, collects Metal GearMetal Gear 2: Solid SnakeMetal Gear Solid 2: Sons of LibertyMetal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker with remastered visuals and trophy support.

While this is not a confirmation that Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is actually coming to PS4, it is pretty convincing evidence. Furthermore, it makes total business sense for Konami to port the collection to PS4, as it would be significantly cheaper than building a brand new Metal Gear Solid experience from the ground-up, and it could be a way to appeal to some disillusioned fans.

Another way Konami could cater to some of its former supporters is by including additional bells and whistles in the PS4 version of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. One big way Konami could make Metal Gear Solid HD Collection more appealing is by including Metal Gear Solid, which was left out of the collection last time around.

Before fans get too excited about the prospect of revisiting Snake's classic adventures, though, they should note that Metal Gear Solid HD Collection hasn't actually been announced for PS4. It's entirely possible that the listing on Armature's website was made in error, and that the collection is staying on last-gen consoles and PS Vita. If the collection does exist, though, perhaps we'll learn more about it some time after the budget-priced Metal Gear Survive's launch later this month.

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is available now for PS3, PS Vita, and Xbox 360.
