An established industry insider recently hinted at an imminent revival of the Metal Gear Solid series. This development dovetails with a recent rumor suggesting Konami and PlayStation struck an exclusive deal for a Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake.Industry rumblings concerning a potential Snake Eater remake have been circulating the Internet for years now. Prior to the aforementioned PlayStation exclusivity claims, VGC's Andy Robinson reported on the potential MGS3 remake release window, in addition to suggesting Konami is still considering some kind of re-releases for the series.RELATED: Hogwarts Legacy Composer Teases Metal Gear Solid Project, But It's Not What You ThinkFollowing the recent announcement of the next PlayStation Showcase, Robinson took to Twitter to indicate that the event will feature Metal Gear Solid-related news. While the insider hasn't elaborated on his cryptic tweet suggesting PlayStation fans should be "Geared up" for the showcase, past reports on the matter point to the MGS3 remake being the likeliest candidate to appear at the event.

Though gamers have long been clamoring for a MGS3 remake, a modernized version of the fourth installment in the series is another popular ask among the fandom. Not least because Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots remains effectively trapped on the PS3, whereas Snake Eater eventually made its way to everything from the Xbox 360 to handhelds like the PS Vita and 3DS. The PS3's exotic Cell architecture always made porting its exclusives a substantial challenge for developers, which is widely believed to be the main reason why MGS4 never made its way to any other platform.

The upcoming PlayStation Showcase is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 24, starting at 1pm PST. As per usual, Sony intends to stream the event on both Twitch and YouTube. It remains to be seen whether the Metal Gear Solid series ends up as one of the highlights of the broadcast, assuming it does make an appearance during the showcase. Not least because Sony is also expected to feature the likes of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Final Fantasy 16 at the event.

Naughty Dog's The Last of Us multiplayer game could also make an appearance at the show, as the studio promised that more info about its mysterious project will emerge at some point this year. And while many of the games that fans can expect to see at the upcoming PlayStation Showcase are planned to release by the end of the year, past reports suggested that the rumored Metal Gear Solid 3 remake is targeting a 2024 launch.
