At Sony's latest PlayStation Showcase event, the long-rumored Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake was finally announced alongside the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 set. These Metal Gear Solid games leaked quite some time ago, but now fans finally have official confirmation.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is notable for being the earliest game in the Metal Gear Solid series timeline-wise. So even though it's the third numbered entry in the series, it does make some sense to start there if Konami is hoping to remake Hideo Kojima's games instead of trying to make brand-new Metal Gear Solid experiences. It remains to be seen just how substantial the differences in the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake will be, as the announcement trailer was light on details.

The CG trailer for the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake showed Naked Snake sneaking around in the jungle, but didn't reveal much else beyond that it's in development for PS5. What may get fans buzzing even more than the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake confirmation is the announcement of Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1, which will give fans of the franchise the chance to relive the classic Metal Gear Solid games on modern platforms.

While the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake has no release date, the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 set was confirmed for release Autumn 2023. This collection will include the original Metal Gear Solid game, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and the original version of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Since the announcement happened during the PlayStation Showcase, all fans know for sure is that the collection is coming to PS5, but insiders have suggested that it will also be coming to other platforms like PC and Xbox.

Metal Gear Solid fans are still waiting to learn if Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 is coming to non-PlayStation platforms, but in the meantime, it's been confirmed that the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake will indeed be multi-platform. It's also been clarified that the game's official title is Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and it will see the return of the original cast, meaning David Hayter is most likely reprising his role as Snake.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 are both in development.
