Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3DS Trailer and Screenshots Take You Back to the Jungle

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater 3DS

Last night we had Nintendo's press conference where they unveiled the price, Japanese release date and list of titles announced for the Nintendo 3DS. One of those titles was a port of Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater. The Snake Eater port was announced earlier at E3, but today we finally have a trailer and screenshots of Snake sneaking into the third dimension.

You can see from the trailer that Kojima is definitely playing with the new 3D tech, throwing in some comedic charm that you'll find in most Metal Gear games. I'm slightly disappointed there was no cardboard box action. Watching this on a standard screen doesn't do it justice, and I can't wait to get my hands on this new handheld and the game along with it.

Instead of being a direct port, it looks like Snake Eater borrows a bit Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Snake moves similar to how he does in Peace Walker and he is also sporting a sneaking suit in his transition from PS2 to 3DS. For those of you who didn't play the original Snake Eater, it was one of the first games to offer different types of camouflage, each designed for different situations. It was an interesting idea but was poorly executed with a cumbersome menu system.

Konami didn't give a specific release date for the 3DS version of the MGS 3 port, but said it would be out in the Spring. Will we get to see Snake alongside a North American 3DS launch? We'll keep you updated on any word from Nintendo or Konami. While you're waiting you can check out the screenshots below.
