For the platformists out there scared that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will not be up to snuff with the rest of the Metal Gear franchise, rest assured knowing that Revengeance has been developed with the PS3 as the leading platform.

There has been much chatter whether or not Revengeance will live up to fanboy/girl standards of the previous entries to the Metal Gear Solid franchise, and this debate couldn’t be more of a touchier subject right now. MGS loyalists are divided throughout our comment sections here at Game Rant and we understand the complaint full-heartedly.

To some fans, the fact that this game is outside the Solid realm frankly disgusts and offends. Fortunately, details released so far reveal that Revengeance is a spin-off with Raiden as the main protagonist, a hack-and-slash, cyborg ninja. But something else has upset the MGS fanbase and it is another case of platformism, knowing that the next title will not be PS3 exclusive like Metal Gear Solid 4 was.

Those who watched “The Truth Behind Rising” — which displayed the making of Revengeance and teased ideas for Metal Gear Solid 5 — may have noticed that developers were using Xbox 360 controllers throughout the video. Why, you may ask? The simple reason is that Platinum uses 360 controllers for cross-platform development — it is the only option at their disposal. Producer at Platinum, Atsushi Inaba, stated that he wished that someone would make a PS3 solution for cross-platform development.

Bayonetta, Platinum Games’ first shining star, was in fact developed solely on the Xbox 360 and the PS3 version was handled externally. After a long series of tweets in regards to the matter, producer from Platinum, Atsushi Inaba stated, “So, in closing, Metal Gear Rising’s lead platform is also PlayStation 3.” That battle has now been settled with that closing statement, but the war rages on.

Ranters, does this news settle the fire inside or has this game still offended your Metal Gear loyalty? Be sure to check out the Revengeance VGA announcement trailer.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is en route for a PS3 and Xbox 360 debut sometime in 2012.
