Meta, formerly Facebook, has proven itself to have one of the most popular VR headset lines available on the market. Both the Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 have sold extremely well, bringing VR to the masses in an approachable form that doesn't require a computer to run.

The Oculus Quest 2 is nearly two years old at this point, and while many are still enjoying it, there are those looking to the future, as well. During an interview, Mark Zuckerberg, head of Facebook, has revealed that the next Meta VR headset is on its way and will arrive in October.

Previously referred to as Project Cambria, the next Meta VR headset is going to bring a lot more innovative features and new technology to virtual reality. Zuckerberg spoke about it during a recent talk with Joe Rogan, where he stated that the "next device" was coming in October. Unfortunately, Zuckerberg didn't provide an official name for the device, nor an exact price point. However, he did provide several details that give some hints as to what fans can expect.

The next Meta VR headset will take a step past the Oculus Quest 1 and 2, not only tracking a user's hands and movements, but also what their face is doing, as well. The new device will be able to track eye movement, which Zuckerberg says could be translated to a virtual avatar, showing others exactly where the user is looking. It will also be able to read facial expressions, so those too can be transmitted to one's avatar for a more natural social experience. Previous information regarding Project Cambria has also noted that augmented or mixed reality will be one aspect of the device, allowing users to bring elements of VR into a full-color overlay of the real world.

However, all of this new technology does come with a caveat. The price of the next Meta VR headset will likely be significantly higher than the Quest and Quest 2. It's been suggested that the headset will retail for somewhere around $800 or beyond, making it cost the same as two of the current headsets, even following the base model of the Oculus Quest 2's price increase to $400.

It likely won't be long before Meta announces an event to reveal the new technology and what users can expect from it. The headset will play an important role in bringing Meta's vision of the Metaverse to life, but with the company continuing to see massive losses in the VR department, it remains to be seen if that will ever come to pass.
