Buyers who are interested in the Meta Quest Pro may not want to wait much longer to pick one up, as the high-end virtual reality/mixed-reality headset is being sold at a major discount. It's unlikely that the headset will go for a lower price than this one in the near future, considering the superior hardware capabilities of the device and its lack of current VR competitors on the market.
The Meta Quest Pro is Meta's (formerly Facebook) most powerful virtual reality headset yet. In comparison to the Meta Quest 1 and 2, the Meta Quest Pro is capable of doing more and at higher speeds and resolutions due to its superior hardware. It's also capable of more advanced versions of features that the Meta Quest 1 and 2 have, like full color pass-through, as opposed to the grayscale pass-through of the original headsets. However, none of this comes cheaply, as the Meta Quest Pro is expensive, typically retailing at $1499.99.
Right now, though, fans can scoop a Meta Quest Pro for a tremendous discount: $400 off of the usual MSRP, bringing it down to $1099.99. The discount is currently scheduled to end on February 4, and is available through the Newegg store. However, it's warned that this discount will only last while supplies of the headset are available, so virtual reality enthusiasts shouldn't wait too long to look into it.
While the Meta Quest Pro isn't necessarily for everyone, it provides a step up from the Meta Quest 2 experience. Similar to the Meta Quest 2, users can play games and enjoy virtual reality experiences without the need for a powerful PC, or they can connect to one in order to utilize more processing power. There are some considerable quality of life advancements, however, that aren't limited to the technology behind the display and the device's input. The battery has been moved to the back of the headset, for example, making for a more balanced weight on the head that should help to reduce the risk of neck strain.
The Meta Quest Pro is supposed to be one of the headsets that will usher in the Metaverse, the digital virtual reality platform from Facebook. The idea is that users will be able to log into the Metaverse via their headsets not only for social experiences, but to also do things like have work meetings remotely while still retaining a sense of physical closeness, due to the presence of virtual avatars interacting with each other on the screens of the users. It's not clear at this time if the Metaverse will ever reach fruition, but even without it, the Meta Quest Pro offers gamers and professionals alike a great way of enjoying virtual reality and all it has to offer.
