Meta has revealed that the Meta Quest Pro and the Meta Quest 2 are officially receiving a price cut in the near future. The Meta Quest Pro was only released in October last year, and has already seen its price come falling down.

Meta's VR headsets have struggled over the years to win over gamers. Until August last year, gamers were required to connect a Facebook account to use their Quest devices, a requirement that did not go down well and the company's recent ending of support for the original Oculus Quest headset won no fans, either. Things have been made more difficult for Meta due to the well-received launch of PS VR2, Sony's latest attempt at bringing VR to gamers. Healthy competition should still be a good thing for gamers in the long run, as huge companies attempt to be at the forefront of this exciting technology.

The report of the price cuts comes from UploadVR, which claims that the price of the Meta Quest Pro is being reduced from $1500 to $1000. The 256GB Meta Quest 2 is also seeing a slashed price, from $500 to $430, while the 128GB Meta Quest 2 is remaining at $400 for now. The price change is permanent, although it won't take effect until March 5 in the US and Canada, and March 15 in other countries. The news comes just days after Meta began discussing its future plans, including the potential power of the upcoming Meta Quest 3. This is only going to make it harder for the company to sell the older devices, so a price cut right now does make sense.

Ultimately these cuts can only be seen as a good thing. One of the big struggles in helping VR break into the mainstream has been the price point, which for many potential players has just been seen as too high. Meta has already tested a massive discount for the Meta Quest Pro in January, and the company must have seen enough to suggest it's worth doing on a permanent basis.

The next few years promise to be extremely exciting for fans of VR. The platform has finally started to receive system sellers in the last few years, with Half-Life Alyx probably the most notable. However, it's rumored that some of the biggest games in the world will be coming to VR in the coming years, bringing a whole new way to play past favorites. One rumor even suggests that Roblox may be coming to Meta Quest this year, which would be a coup considering the game's current popularity. However, it's unknown how the game would actually play in VR
