As part of the upcoming Black Friday season, the Meta Quest 2 VR headset is getting a limited-time discounted bundle. On top of a price drop from its usual MSRP, the bundle will also include two acclaimed VR games with each purchase made at qualifying retailers. The sale will begin on November 18 and will continue while supplies last.
This bundle comes soon after the release of the Meta Quest Pro on October 25 as well as Meta's quarterly earnings report the day after. This was the same report that gave news on the next iteration of the Meta Quest line of headsets. While the Meta Quest Pro has a much higher price point and a larger focus on mixed reality, the Quest 2 is geared toward consumers looking for a VR headset for entertainment and games.
The upcoming bundle will go on sale this Friday for $349.99 for the 128 GB model and $429.99 for the 256 GB model, respectively. Of the two games included with the bundle, one will be the popular VR rhythm game of the recently updated Beat Saber, which has continued to get new music packs based on popular music artists. The other game to be included is the widely praised VR edition of Resident Evil 4. Purchases of the bundle can be made on Meta's website or at participating retailers such as Amazon, GameStop, and Walmart.
Beat Saber had previously been included with new purchases of the Meta Quest 2 made between August 1 and December 31 of 2022. However, news of this discounted bundle comes as Beat Saber has continued to gain new users and updates despite being over four years old. This continued popularity can be attributed to the game's player base which keeps the game active, but also to the modding community who show their creativity and work to make the game more accessible.
This discounted bundle is in line with recent efforts by Meta to establish the Quest line as a home for heavy-hitting AAA titles from major publishers. This was exemplified following the recent Meta Connect event held in October. After the event, Skydance Interactive announced a new game titled Behemoth. While not explicitly referred to as being exclusive to the platform, its spotlight following the event is notable.
The Meta Quest 2 remains a popular choice for gamers looking for a VR experience despite not being the only VR headset on the market. PC competitors such as the Valve Index offer VR experiences, but at higher price points and more equipment necessary to function. For console users, VR will become available for PS5 owners with the release of the PS VR2 on February 22, 2023, though it will also have a higher price point. In any case, the Meta Quest 2 is sure to gain new users this Black Friday season.
