Taking screenshots of vital moments in gaming has become a modern standard on video game consoles and gaming devices. While some players wouldn't automatically realize it's possible on the Meta (Oculus) Quest 2, gamers can capture all their gaming moments on the VR device.

Thankfully, the Meta Quest can take screenshots for players to record their progress, and they can transfer their images to their home computers. Using the following steps, Meta Quest users can take screenshots and get them on a PC for use or sharing.

  • Locate the Oculus - the oval-shaped symbol - button on the right-hand controller - as displayed in the below image

  • Now locate the trigger button on the other side of the controller - although both triggers will do for this task.

  • Hold down the power button on the side of the Meta Quest 2 VR headset and place them on.

  • With the VR set on, press and hold the Oculus button and then press the controller's trigger button to take the screenshot. An in-menu sound will indicate that the screenshot has worked. Now players can screenshot their games in Meta Quest 2.

  • After the sound has indicated a screenshot was taken, it's time to find the image in the Meta Quest gallery.
  • Click on the Files tab on the screen.

  • This will open up the gallery of screenshots that the user has taken.

  • Now players can browse their screenshots at their leisure or send post them on Facebook with the share button. But if the user wants to transfer the files to a PC, they need to use the following instructions.

Transferring Screenshots From The Meta Quest 2 To The PC

To transfer screenshots and show off those memorable moments from the Meta Quest 2 to a PC, users will need a USB-C to USB-A lead to connect the device to a computer.

  • Switch on the Meta headset and the PC that the user wants to transfer the files.
  • Connect the USB lead to synch the two devices.
  • A sound on the PC will indicate that it's connected to the Meta Quest 2.
  • Inside the headset, a prompt will appear to allow connected devices to access files.
  • Select Allow then the PC user can access the files on their PC.
  • Click the Meta/Oculus Quest device in the File Explorer - It can be listed as MTP USB Device.

  • Now select the Screenshots folder. Players can copy and paste the images into their picture folder on the PC.

Troubleshooting

There are reports that users that owned the Meta Quest 2 before the name change and the gallery updates aren't getting prompted to allow access on their PC. Unfortunately, the most successful way to fix this is by using Meta Quest's Factory Reset option. However, there are other options to try before taking such a drastic approach are:

  • Ensure the USB lead is working correctly.
  • Make sure the Admin user is logged in.
  • Make sure the Meta Quest is up to date.
