There is a possibility that Capcom will reveal a brand-new game in the Mega Man franchise as the 35th anniversary of the series approaches this year. Mega Man has been through the ringer over the years, but is still considered both a classic gaming franchise and important pillar off gaming. The franchise's 35th anniversary will arrive this December, and while Capcom has done some minor things to celebrate, such as the release of new merchandise, fans are eagerly anticipating a new game.

This desire is especially telling after the successful revitalization with 2018's Mega Man 11, which not only drew positive critical reviews but gave some fans hope that the blue bomber would be making a comeback. Ever since that game, though, the only releases for the franchise have been a series of packaged re-releases. Thankfully, recent activity from Capcom suggests there might be a brand-new platformer based on the classic series in the works.

As spotted by the fansite Rockman Corner, the domains for Mega Man 12, Mega Man 13, Mega Man 14, and Mega Man 15 were all registered in 2018, but were updated this year. The registrant was from GMO Internet Group, who register website domains on Capcom's behalf for games such as Devil May Cry 5, Resident Evil 2, and more. While it's more than likely these websites were first registered as placeholders before Mega Man 11's release, the site being updated the same year as Mega Man's 35th Anniversary might lead to something new being announced.

With these pieces in place, it's likely fans will see this new Mega Man game be a sequel to Mega Man 11. The eleventh entry in the long-running franchise recently became one of the best-selling games in the franchise, selling over 1.6 million units across all platforms. That milestone was once held by Mega Man 2, which sold 1.51 million units. Considering this newfound success with Mega Man 11, Mega Man 12 might be announced next to capitalize on it. However, this is just speculation for the time being until an official announcement is made by Capcom.

Currently, the only Mega Man game slated to be released in the future is the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, remastering the entire GBA subseries onto new platforms. This game will be released in two parts, with a targeted window of 2023. This collection will also have a bunch of new features, such as online multiplayer, chip trading, and improved visuals.

Mega Man 12 is rumored to be in development.
