One of the first big game releases of 2021 is Bloober Team's horror game The MediumThe Medium is out now with mostly positive reviews, and with it available to play through Xbox Game Pass, those curious can give the game a shot without committing to paying for the full price. Fans of Bloober Team's previous works will definitely want to try The Medium, as it turns out the game has an interesting connection to one of the studio's earlier titles.

When players first start The Medium, they will find themselves in protagonist Marianne's apartment. Players are free to explore Marianne's apartment and parts of the building, and as they do so, they will find some collectibles that offer more context for the story. If players pay close attention, they will realize that Marianne's apartment is located in Krakow, Poland, and not only that, but it's the same apartment complex as the one featured in Observer.

Observer is a first-person cyberpunk horror game from Bloober Team that it released a few years ago, and it's actually one of the studio's most well-received titles. Observer is set in the year 2084, however, so The Medium gives Bloober Team fans the opportunity to see what the apartment looked like in modern times. There doesn't seem to be any other significant connection between the two games, but it is an interesting easter egg to be sure.

The Medium Ending

For those that missed out on Observer, the game is easily accessible on modern platforms. In fact, Bloober Team recently released Observer: System Redux, which is a next-gen port of the game that includes some PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X enhancements along with new side quests and other content. If The Medium leaves players wanting more, they may want to consider checking out Observer: System Redux when they get chance.

In the meantime, it will be interesting to see what Bloober Team's next project is, as the studio has regularly released new games each year since 2010, with the exception of 2018. Perhaps it will move forward with a new Layers of Fear game, or maybe it will make a sequel to Observer. Then again, The Medium's story leaves the door open for a sequel to that as well, so maybe that will be next on the developer's plate.

Whatever Bloober Team's next game is, one has to wonder if it will include more connections between its other games, potentially creating a Bloober Team video game universe in the process.

The Medium is out now for PC and Xbox Series X.
