There were a ton of great games released during the PlayStation era. As developers attempted to find their footing on the disc-based machine, there were many releases that attempted to craft complex games with visually-impressive 3D assets. In 1998, Sony Computer Entertainment and its SCE Cambridge Studio attempted to create their own release to cash in on the success of 3D adventure games.

The finished product was a macabre gothic-themed adventure featuring a long-dead character that was anything but a "true hero" in his heyday. But the morbid theme wasn't nearly as dark and dreary as the plot synopsis makes it seem. MediEvil was fondly remembered by most PS1 fans, leading the company to remake it for the PS4. This new version plays a lot like the original, with vastly superior visuals. Because of this, there are still some puzzles and items that give players trouble, like the Skull Key. Players may not know exactly what this key does or where it goes the first time they get their hands on it. Here's a look at where the Skull Key comes from in MediEvil and what it opens.

How To Get The Skull Key In MediEvil

Stained Glass Demon MediEvil

Getting the Skull Key is actually quite simple, as players will be forced to obtain it as they make their way through Sir Daniel Fortesque's epic adventure. To find it, players need to progress through each level until they reach The Hilltop Mausoleum level. Here, players will have to do some puzzle-solving and take a short trip around the Mausoleum to eventually awaken a boss called the Stained Glass Demon. The fight against this boss is fairly straightforward, with players having to dodge the demon's attacks and then shoot at its heart with the crossbow once it becomes exposed.

Once the demon falls, players will receive the Skull Key, an item that seems like it unlocks a nearby door. In actuality, the key is used in the familiar level after the Hilltop Mausoleum. Players can access the level by leaping through the window behind the boss arena and progressing to Return to the Graveyard.

Where To Use The Skull Key In MediEvil

MediEvil Return To THe Graveyard LEvel

Once players start Return to the Graveyard, they'll be back in the familiar confines of the introductory level, but with new enemies and a new path that can be unlocked. Players should progress through the area, fighting off headless zombies and other baddies until they reach a massive gate with a strange Skull and Crossbones adoring the center as a lock. Players will know they're at the right gate by spotting a nearby book and two bright orange lights on either side of the gate itself.

Once at the gate, players can simply walk up to the large lock, open their inventory, and use the Skull Key they obtained from the Hilltop Mausoleum. Doing so will unlock the gate and allow players access to the rest of the Graveyard.
