The MediEvil remake was first announced at PlayStation Experience 2017, promising to update Sir Daniel Fortesque's original adventure for modern audiences with 4K visuals. We haven't seen a whole lot of MediEvil since its initial announcement, but Sony has finally announced a release date for the game as part of a brand new gameplay trailer.

The new MediEvil remake gameplay trailer was released during Sony's State of Play stream, and it has confirmed that the game will have a very fitting release date. As announced by Sony, the MediEvil remake release date is October 25, meaning the game will arrive just in time for Halloween.

Since players control a reanimated skeleton and the art style is heavily inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas, it makes sense for the MediEvil remake release date to be around Halloween. In fact, the game's Halloween-themed art style was one of its strongest features according to critics back in 1998, so it's great to see it updated for modern audiences.

While the MediEvil remake is looking to deliver the goods when it comes to its visual presentation, here's hoping it's able to do so with its gameplay as well. The original MediEvil did receive some criticism for its controls and a wonky camera back in the day, so hopefully developer Other Ocean Interactive is able to address those concerns with the remake.

Based on the gameplay trailer, it looks like the MediEvil remake will indeed provide a more tolerable control scheme and tighter gameplay in general. Of course, it's hard to form a definitive opinion on the gameplay without actually playing the game ourselves, but based on the new MediEvil gameplay trailer, it does seem as though the game is coming along nicely.

If the MediEvil remake is able to live up to the hype, perhaps fans will see MediEvil 2 get a remake as well. Or maybe Sony will be inspired to produce the first completely original game in the series since MediEvil 2 launched in 2000. But before fans can concern themselves too much with future games in the MediEvil franchise, they'll have to wait and see how the MediEvil remake performs first.

MediEvil will launch on October 25, exclusively for the PS4.
