MediEvil, originally for the PS1, has recently gotten a new PS4 remake. The new game has excited fans of the series with a fun demo that unlocked in-game content, amazing new graphics, and even some new content. One of the new things that Sony added to the old game is something called Lost Souls. Each level has a Lost Soul that players can collect, and each Soul has a unique resting place to be dropped off in. When players collect them all, they unlock something special.

Unlocking Lost Souls

The Lost Souls are a great addition that adds some time to the overall length of the game. Players can unlock the lost souls by opening the blue chest in the Entrance Hall. Take the right staircase all the way down; a chest should be at the bottom. This will give players their first soul and unlock the others. After a new soul is obtained or aid to rest, players will have to finish that level to keep it.

1. Fisherman Formes

The first lost soul is named Fisherman Formes and is found in the Entrance Hall, in that treasure chest mentioned above.

The rest location is in the Sleeping Village. Once inside the Village, head right to the lake. At the lake, players should get a prompt to push the Touch Pad. This will start the laying to rest process and will spawn a bunch of creatures to defeat. Once they are all dead, the soul will rest. This location looks absolutely stunning with its updated 4k graphics.

2. Brute Bruty

The Graveyard houses the second soul. It will be on the right side of the Graveyard before players collect the first rune. The rest location is Scarecrow Fields. After the area with the mechs, players will come across a windmill near the entrance of the gauntlet. The prompt to lay the soul is at the entrance of the gauntlet. Defeat the sped up gauntlet, and Burty is ready to rest.

3. Ye Olde Olivara

This one is in Cemetery Hill; it's located in the starting area to the left. Bring Olivara's soul to the Return to the Graveyard. Players will have to defeat the Stained Glass Demon from the original demo to get the key for the Skull Gate in the Return to the Graveyard first.

After the gate is open, there will be a yellow rune. Place the soul in the same spot as the yellow rune, spawning some hand enemies that players will have to crush with a club or hammer. Once the enemies are dead, the soul will finally be at rest.

4. Baffy the Baffler

Baffy is located in the Hilltop Mausoleum. At the beginning of the stage, head to the right. The soul should be at the end of the corridor before the drop down to the basement.

The resting place in the circle on the ground in the first part of the Asylum Grounds. Stand in the center of the circle and use the touch pad to spawn some enemies called Rhinotaurs throughout the whole level. Once all five of the enemies are dead, the soul will be at peace. Don't forget to admire how beautiful the PS4 graphics are in the Asylum Grounds compared to the original, PS1 graphics while here.

5. Surgeon Sherman

While players are laying Ye Olde Olivara to rest in the Return to the Graveyard, they can pick up the Surgeon. The Return is one of those classic, PS1 locations that fans love, and looks amazing in the new version. This soul list located at the very start of the Return. He wants to be laid to rest Inside the Asylum. Kill all the enemies in the 4th area, and a golden gate will appear. Press the touch pad before going inside. Kill everything that spawns inside, then the soul will be at rest.

6. Chen the Enchantress

Scarecrow Fields is where players can find Chen. At the start of the level, kick the carts out of the way. Players should then be able to walk between the buildings and collect the soul.

The Enchantress wishes to be buried in Cemetery Hill. Go to the right side of the starting screen for this level. There will be a rock in the way. Players will need a club or hammer to smash through some boulders to get through this part, to get into the cave. Inside the cave, smash through the bookshelf too, then find the altar. Kill all of the enemies then drop Chen off at her resting place.

7. Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Weder

While MediEvil might have a lot of spooky competition with other big names this October like Luigi's Mansion 3, it's really the best Halloween game around, and the Pumpkin Gorge really shows off the love for the holiday. The soul of Peter is waiting in the Pumpkin Gorge. Look for a ramp near where players have to place the red and blue runes. It should lead to a window; inside is the ghost of Peter. He wishes to be laid to rest at the Pumpkin Serpent, but first players will have to defeat the boss. Once the Pumpkin King is defeated, look for the rake just next to the boss area and use the touch pad. Kill the enemies that spawn, and Peter is happy.

8. Treviarnus the Troubadour

While players are laying Peter to rest in the Pumpkin Serpent, look for a witch's cauldron. It houses the soul of Treviarnus, who wishes to be in the Hilltop Mausoleum. Look for the piano-loving phantom and give it Treviarnus' soul. It will spawn musical sheets that have to be collected around the whole level. Once all 40 of them are together, the ghost will be laid to rest.

9. Grave Keeper Kambic

The Sleeping Village is the location of Kambic. He's hiding behind the Mayor's House. He wishes to be buried in the Graveyard, under the Angel statue by the red rune gate. First, players will have to spin the Angel statue 180 degrees and the soul should lay itself to rest.

10. Gavin the Golden

The Asylum Grounds, in the garden, by the elephant bush is not only where Gavin is located, but also very close to where the chalice for this level too, if players are collecting all the chalices to get the good ending. The Crystal Caves are where Gavin wishes to end up, so bring him to the place where the green rune lays. There should be a shining, yellow crystal. This will spawn some treasures that the player will have to pick up.

11. Sir Schmidt the Hermit

The Hermit is the lost soul Inside the Asylum. The Asylum is one of the creepy locations players hope to see if MediEvil gets a PS4 sequel or more remakes of the other games. He's in the very last room; look in the cage just before exiting the level. He'll want players to lay him to rest in the Pumpkin Gorge, on the top of the tower. There's a tiny houses there where some demons will spawn. Take them out and The Hermit will be put to rest.

12. Daring D. Castro

The Enchanted Earth houses the lost soul Daring. After the elevator, look to the left. The soul should be waiting there. Take it to the Haunted Ruins. Go through the red rune gate to the dead end and press the touch pad to lay it to rest. A dragon will spawn, and players will need to aim for its head to kill it. Once its dead, then Daring is done. All this old-school collecting quests is really what made MediEvil highly-rated in reviews.

13. Hopper the Legless

The Legless' spirit is found in the Pools of the Ancient Dead. Go to the swamp area where the 8 gold helmet are. This was one of the locations everyone got to see updated in the original trailer for MediEvil. There should be a soul waiting on the left side.

Hopper wants to be in the Gallows Gauntlet. Players will need the Dragon Armor that guards them from the flames. Stand in the flames, then press the touch pad to lay Legless to rest. A slow-moving ghost will then challenge the player to a race. Win and Hopper will be resting at last.

14. Son Jr., Son of Sr.

Look for Son at the Lake. At the end of the level, pick up the yellow rune. In this exact location is where Son is waiting. Son is look to settle down in the Enchanted Earth. This one is a little more difficult to lay to rest than the others. First, players will have to solve the floor-pad puzzle. Once the demons have been set free, backtrack all the way to the beginning of the level again.

Once back at the beginning screen, players will have to hunt around for the hint on where to place the soul. Hitting the touch pad will spawn vines that have to be cut down. Then Son will be laid to rest there, beneath the gargoyle.

15. Knight McKnight

McKnight is located in the Crystal Caves right by the skull chest. This knight wants a hero's place at the Pools of the Ancient Dead. Players will get the prompt to lay him to rest on the main path right in front of the gargoyle. He asks if the player will guide him through the whole level. After completing the level, Knight McKnight will bid the players good night.

16. Nautical Nachbaur

The Gallows Gauntlet houses Nachbaur, right by the fire that needs the Dragon Armor. Nachbaur wishes to be laid at rest down at the Lake. In the first part of the underwater section, there will be a prompt to lay him to rest, spawning a rat. Hit it with the hammer or club to defeat it.

17. Barrelman Badillo

Badillo is in the Haunted Ruins, just past the red rune gate. Take him to the Ghost Ship to lay him to rest. Ride the elevator up to the crow's nest on the ship; Badillo wants to rest there.

18. Captain Coffman

Before dropping off Badillo on the Ghost Ship of MediEvil, be sure to grab the Captain. Open the red rune door. Once at the jumping nets, fall through them instead of bouncing on them. This fall will bring the player to the room with the Captain's red soul. He's looking for the Time Device, the final level of the game. In the center of the big clock, there should be a prompt to lay the Captain to rest. It is a little difficult to find, but keep looking by the clock handles if it doesn't appear immediately. Set the time to gold 4 and silver 2. The soul will be laid to rest.

19. Sir Sloane

Last but not least, Sloane is located in the Time Device level. He's in the corner of the room where the laser grid shutoff is located. He wants to kill a dragon before being laid to rest, so that will bring players all the way back to the beginning of the game. Back in the Entrance Hall, in the very last room, release Sloane's soul and some toads will appear. Apparently, Sir Sloane thinks that's close enough to dragons and is ready to rest here.

Here's a great video to help out if players can't find a soul or a resting place:

What Do Players Get for Laying Lost Souls to Rest?

Not only will players get two trophies for getting each of the 19 souls and laying them to rest, but they will also unlock a secret. The two trophies are Lost and Found (for finding all 19 souls) and Soul Savior (for laying them all to rest). Players can also unlock some trophies by trying to use the old cheat codes from the original, if they are looking to platinum the game.

Once the last soul has been laid to rest, players will also unlock the original, PlayStation 1 version of the game from 1998. Now everyone can play the old game inside of the new one and see first hand all of the differences!
