Medieval Dynasty is a survival game. Like most survival games, Medieval Dynasty tasks players with maintaining their character's need for food and shelter while exploring the world.

Unlike most survival games, the protagonist in Medieval Dynasty isn't a lone explorer in uncharted territory. They're the patriarch of an expanding medieval village, and have to look after the health and well-being of their villagers.

While a first-time Medieval Dynasty player might first focus on farming, there's one resource that's more important than food: Water. And while keeping the player character hydrated is easy, keeping a village hydrated is a bit more of a challenge.

Berry Picking From Medieval Dynasty

An Easy Source of Water

If the player character is thirsty, all they need to do is go to a river and drink. Their stomach is strong enough that they don't have to worry about water-borne diseases or micro-organisms. But their fellow villagers are nowhere near as hardy.

If the player wants their villagers to access water, they need to build a food storage building using Medieval Dynasty's crafting system. In the short term, they place river water in storage using a bucket or waterskein, and no one has to think about where it came from. They can also harvest and store berries, which double as a source of food and water. But if they want a long-term solution, they'll need to build some infrastructure.

A Self Sufficient Village

As expected, the solution to a village's water problems is to build a well. It's not available immediately, but the player can build one after reaching 50 farming tech points.

Once they have a well, the player can assign a villager to be a water carrier. They'll automatically fill available buckets or waterskeins with water and place them in one of Medieval Dynasty's storage buildings.

This is a process that can be further automated. If the player has a Resource Storage building, empty buckets and waterskeins will automatically be stored there. If the player has a workshop, they can assign a villager to be a craftsman, automatically making buckets. If the player has a woodshed, they can assign a villager to be a lumberjack, and they'll automatically get wood to build buckets.

A village's production cycle can't be built solely around wells and buckets. It'll take some time to first build all the necessary buildings, and then figure out a workflow to best fill everyone's needs. But after a certain point, the player won't have to worry about keeping their villagers well fed and watered and can freely explore independently.

Medieval Dynasty is available now for PC.
